This was our second stay at this hotel. The situation is great, right next to the canal, and the rooms although not perfectly sound proofed are comfortable, well furnished and good value. The staff on the front desk are welcoming and this has all the ingredients for a good hotel apart from one thing, the restaurant. After our last stay we completed the hotel's own customer survey and very clearly pointed out that there were deficiencies in the quantity and standard of food at breakfast, there were too many empty dishes and eggs that had been fried so long ago they had turned to rubber. Also the standard of washing up and general cleanliness in the restaurant was poor. I decided at the time not to put anything adverse on Trip Advisor as I felt sure the hotel would resolve these problems quickly. To my surprise when we went back at the end of September this year the problems still persisted in the restaurant at breakfast and at other times. For example, We had tea one afternoon and I was given a cup with a dirty ring on the inside. I took it to a staff member who offered me another, this also had a ring around the inside. I asked for another and this one was chipped, at the fourth go I got an acceptable cup. At breakfast the cutlery was not properly clean, in fact my knife had 2 perfect finger prints on the blade and I rejected 2 plates at the buffet before getting a clean one. For some reason they do not give you a pot of tea or coffee at breakfast, you have to rely upon over stretched or don't care staff to keep you supplied. This meant that I was having to get up and help myself. What really irks me about this is that the customer survey I completed last year was obviously not taken any notice of. That means that it was a waste of my time and an insult to what I considered to be constructive criticism. I will probably stay ay this hotel again because there is not a lot of choice in Oswestry and hopefully my comments which are now out in the public arena will encourage management to improve matters for the future.
