“Carvery with decent vegetarian option!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

The carvery at The Black horse had been recommended to us so we booked a table for last Sunday. Friendly staff showed us to our table and I ordered the vegetarian option, the choice was cheese & broccoli bake or veg sausage with gravy. I chose sausage & gravy, it's so nice to have none-meat gravy provided, I have been known to take my own in a small flask! I was also helpfully told that the Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes are cooked with vegetable oil so were ok to have, which pleased me no end because they looked delicious. The vegetables were fresh and hot despite it being 3pm. The veg sausages were very tasty, with separately served gravy, just the job!
My two companions opted for beef and pork, generous helpings which they said were tender and delicious.
We were very impressed by the quality and choice as well as the good service, we'll definitely be returning soon.

“Great Food ,”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Just returned from Sunday Lunch at The Black Horse. Each month we try a different venue and this wil be placed top of the list. Great food and good value for money. Choice of 4 meats and you could have a mixed selection if wanted. Not a great range of vegetables but more than adequate. The meat just melted in your mouth and the gravy was out of this world. Nothing can beat good home made gravy. Good selection of desserts. £10.95 for two courses, so good value. Would certainly recommend and we will certainly go back again. Need to book

“Lax atmosphere spoilt amazing food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013 via mobile

What a lovely place was really busy for food we went on a Sunday with friends the carvery was the best iv ever had. With a choice of 4 meats huge Yorkies and the best roast potatoes iv had served by the chef (who didn't seem 2 have much help ) and helped ourselves 2 vegetables and the most amazing gravy. Only real down sides were my husband moaning half the afternoon bout the state of the toilets because the men's were in such a state. And the fact that wen we went 2 pay we were totally ignored by a very rude barman. Tho we will suffer that and definitely go back again as the food was so good.

“Idyllic location, wonderful food and excellent staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Recommended to us by a friend for its food.
This pub, located in the pretty village of Maesbrook and is an absolute pleasure to dine at. We have driven over 40 miles on 2 occasions, especially to eat here and SHALL be returning.
The food is second to none. Home made freshly cooked pub grub. Excellent value for money and tastes out of this world.
The waiting staff were helpful and couldn't do enough to appease us and the pub was quaint and old fashioned with a very nice atmosphere.
Our only problem surfaced when we attempted to pay our bill. Although the bar was relatively quiet the gentleman behind the bar appeared to not be interested in taking our money or our further order of drinks which made us feel somewhat ignored but this was eventually rectified by another very efficient member of bar staff.
That said, we will be returning again to try one of The Black Horses carverys which our friend also highly recommends. Well done The Black Horse. Top notch.

“Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Fantastic, this pub was recommended by the B&B we were staying at and we were also told to book a table as they get busy. The pub was clean and friendly, my partner had the steak and ale pie which looked and tasted fantastic, I opted for a vegetarian meal which was also fantastic, but the best was yet to come the puddings were out of this world - we would recommend this pub, it was also very reasonably priced.
