“The Bells, The Bells !!”

Not bad for a Best Western, rather what one would expect. Booking OK, reception OK, bar OK, room OK, dinner OK, but nothing to set the world alight here.

Make sure you ask for and get a room at the back as the roadside rooms are noisy with late evening traffic and the local church clock is not muted after late evening.

Other than that as a picky traveller I have stayed in a lot worse places than this, Fitness freaks well suited with magnificient health centre at the rear.

Good location in that is pretty central in Oswestry itself but also quite easy to find with lots of parking. The facilities were good with a fully kitted out fitness suite with pool and jacuzzi.

The restaurant had a good selection of dishes on the menu and the staff were efficient and friendly. Main courses ranged from around the £10 to £18 mark.

The double bedroom we had was adequate in size and well furnished with quality curtains and pelmets ( according to my wife who knows about these things).

The overall standard of decor was quite presentable and public rooms were regularly cleaned and tidied.

Bar prices were pretty standard for a hotel in this category and a reasonable selection of beers including a couple of 'quality' lagers and a Real Ale. The wine selection is the bar and restaurant was good if a little on the expensive side.

We booked via lastminute.com which gave us a Double room, includijng full breakfast, Friday & Saturday nights for a total of £150, which was a good price looking at the normal and weekend tariffs.

My one critism was the heating in the hotel was far too high and was pretty stiffling late in the evening in the Lounge area. I mentioned this when checking out and I wasn't the only guest who had complained.

Oswestry itself is reasonable interesting with a handful of places within walking distance. There are a couple of castles within 15 or 20 minutes drive and more within 45 minutes which are well worth a visit.
There are some decent pubs within walking distance, The Fox, about 100 yards from the Hotel towards town had a really good selection of Real Ales and ciders with somewhat questionable but interesting decor. There are far more less desireable pubs which are pretty easy to spot and avid. Saturday nights can be noisy and, if you have a room at the front of the hotel and the heating has been turned down, I would suggest keeping your window shut.

All in all a pleasant weekend and a nice hotel.

  • Liked — Clean, fiendly and efficient staff
  • Disliked — Heating too high.

We travelled to Oswestry for a birthday celebration so booked the Wynnstay because of its central location and on local recommendation. Finding the hotel was very straightforward using the directions posted on their website and there was ample parking at the back of the hotel. There was a wedding in full swing when we arrived but check-in was friendly, fast and straightforward. To our delight we found our room was located in the ‘Coachhouse’, as separate building at the other side of the green next to the hotel’s spa. Although we expected a late night ourselves, it was nice to know we would be away from the wedding’s disco etc. We had room 401 with lovely view of the green and very comfortably decorated. Room was a bit stuffy to begin with but once we got the windows open there was a nice breeze blowing through. Clean and spacious bathroom with separate shower cubicle. Pleasant hotel bar with lots of space plus modern cocktail bar and outside seating next door (but part of hotel). We didn’t stay for breakfast but heard from other guests it was good. Very smooth check-out. Wish we had longer to enjoy it! There was a lovely seat by the entrance to the coachhouse that would have been a great spot to sit and read at…

  • Liked — The Coachhouse location, like having our own little cottage.
  • Disliked — Narrow staircase up to room, nearly tripped over the stairmaster...

This hotel is a gem! Reservations were quick, efficient, friendly & helpful.
Check in was fast, extremely helpful and friendly.
Our 1st floor room was beautifully decorated and just a nice comfortable size and very well equipped with very comfortable beds & lovely pillows! two easy chairs and a table. And for once a welcome tray with china teapot and cups and plenty of milk!
Everything was super clean.
The hotel staff are absolutely wonderful, nothing is too much trouble and the service is outstanding.Dinner in the very relaxing restaurant was excellent as was Sunday lunch the next day.
Choice of food both in the restaurant and lounge bar is very good.Residents have free use of the pool and spa (we did not use this facility) but it looked very inviting.
We stay in many hotels both here and abroad and always find something that could be improved on.
Not at this one, we were very impressed and would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the lovely market town of Oswestry. You will not be disappointed. It certainly has got the X-Factor!
