“Great Team, Great Food, Famous Locally”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013 via mobile

Went for a special family dinner today and we had Christmas lunch. Soup was very nice. It was served with fresh baked bread. My starter was the chicken liver pate. It was everything that you would expect. My grandad had the garlic mushroom which were made just right. Herby and nicely balanced with the garlic source.

The signature element of the Christmas lunch for me was the stuffing which was made with pine nuts and raisins. It was different and offered a contemporary touch to a traditional Christmas meal. If you have sweet tooth opt for the white chocolate cheese cake. To be honest all the desert would satisfy the fussiest eater so go on and spoil yourself this Christmas.
We have been before and would return again and again. It's clear that the chef has a passion for cooking excellent British food using top-quality ingredients. Well done all keep the good work.

“Good pub grub and ales”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013 via mobile

Ate here with friends on midweek evening. Simple pub food menu with limited choice and daily "specials". I had special pheasant breast which was very well cooked, tasty and nicely served.
Pub is part of Wood Brewery so great selection of real ales.
Enjoyable evening

“lovely Christmas meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

We went here on a Friday evening for our works Christmas meal. We had the 3 courses for £23.95. The pub was easy to find and plenty of car parking. Our table had Christmas hats on it but we did feel it should have had some Christmas crackers as well. All the food was lovely and freshly prepared. We liked the idea that the veg was brought out and we could help ourselves to what we liked. The courses did feel quite close together we would have liked a bit more time before the next course. All the staff was friendly. We all had a lovely time.

“Great Evening Meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

Went for an evening meal with family, had we all had tasty main meals and desserts and I had a round of chessy garlic bread with my main, which only costs £1.95 but was 3 slices of garlic bread covered in chesse, Fantastic!. Think the price of the chessy garlic bread needs to go up, if they are serving 3 slices as a portion. Overall when we came to pay the bill it was totally reasonably. Portion sizes just right for us all, just what we needed at the end of busy day, enjoyed by all!

“Great Food, Great Beer and Friendly Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

A friend an I were staying within an easy walk of the Plough so on our first night decided to give it a try especially as we heard the the beer was good. We were given a warm welcome by the staff, we were allowed to sample the two ales from the brewery next door ( both were really good) then we had the difficulty of selecting our meal. The regular Menu was interesting as were the specials. We chose different meals and both agreed the meals were very good, well cooked, well presented and very good portions. The accompanying vegetables were excellent. Despite being quite full we found room for a sweet which were very good too!
We returned later in the week and had the same experience.
