The Plough Inn is in the small & delightful village of Wistanstow - a couple of miles north of Craven Arms, and half a mile from the A49. There is ample car parking (shared with Woods the brewery) and the pub is under new management while a new extension for a dining room is nearing completion.
Ray & Sarah Hall have earned a good reputation as chef & manager of a nearby restaurant. Eager for more challenges, they are making their mark by renovating & redecorating this old village pub. It will be a very comfortable place to eat in once the new dining room is finished.
Good, well-kept Woods' beers compliment the excellent food on offer - mostly Specials & bar snacks at the moment - but more ambitious menus will follow. When we visited there was a blazing stove and comfortable seating. The food was delicious: plaice & chips for my wife, steak & kidney pie with chips for me & shared vegetables - washed down with great beers. Portions were generous - no room for puddings, and the service was efficient and courteous: the bill came to a very reasonable £22
Opening hours are 12 noon to 2.30 and 6pm to 11pm with longer hours on Sunday but the pub is closed on Tuesdays.
There are monthly 'specials' and a children's menu. Local food is sourced wherever possible and the chef is talented and enthusiastic. Recommended!
