“Idyllic Wedding Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

My little brother Chris celebrated his marriage to the lovely Nancy by organising a wedding ceremony and a Friday to Sunday friends and family celebration at Walcot Hall in Shropshire. We were allocated one of the many apartments dotted around the huge and beautiful grounds at the hall. Our apartment was called Plassey. Our only concern was that sharing with a younger couple and baby might be a little claustrophobic but we were wrong to worry - the apartment was big, spacious, lots of room for everyone, a huge kitchen dining room, nice big living room with a real log fire, and good sized bedrooms with wardrobes for all. The hall itself is old but in a nice way - lots of character but no dilapidation. The event rooms in the main building, just a stroll from Plassey were beautiful, spacious and comfortable. We had the time of our lives, and by the end of the weekend most of the people there were lobbying Chris and Nancy to celebrate their first anniversary there too! The atmosphere there is quite unusual - there is no check-in or check-out - the room is waiting for you clean and ready with fresh linens and key on the dresser - if you need any help the unobtrusive team are there to help, but we felt like we were the "owners" for the weekend - no complex or restrictive rules, no do's and don'ts - just a support team if you need it and a beautiful hall and grounds to explore and enjoy.

“Absolutely gorgeous Gypsy Caravan in the Arboretum.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

The caravan was tiny, but perfect and cosy. Very Cath Kidston. My grandaughters (8 and 11) loved it there. They played out in the woods (which were beautiful, with primroses and violets everywhere), making dens and running wild without annoying anyone.
The accommodation is very "rustic" the nearest WCs are earth closets, but there is a very nice shower and plumbed toilet close by.
Water has to be brought from the tap outside the loo. There is a two burner stove and a gas heater/fire. Plenty of candles and very pretty fairy lights (battery).
There is a nice outside eating area and a place to have huge campfires - plenty of logs - and a barbeque.
We are planning our next visit already it was a lovely short break (Mon to Fri) £120.
I would advise wellies and torches.

“The Dipping Shed- Walcot Hall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

The Dipping Shed at Walcot Hall is quite simply beautiful. The pictures on the website give you a good indication, but the true beauty and splendour has to be discovered. The grounds and Arboretum are splendid, peaceful and respectfully managed. The trees and plant life are vast, along with the birds and fish in the lakes and pools. The staff are respectful, efficient and homely. Special thanks to Eddie and Lucinda for letting us borrow some wellies to romp around in! The shed itself is full of charm and character, and if you can turn the generator off and use the Rayburn and candles your stay will be enhanced, you can really get back to basics.
There is a walk to get to the shed and its steep and can be muddy, and it is essentially camping, so don't expect immaculate or room service. If you want a little escape from people and noise, enjoy places that are full of character in amazing grounds run by friendly people this if for you.

Well Done to Walcot Hall, the owners and the staff. We loved it and will be returning again. I even left my walking boots on your boot tree as they did not want to leave! Keep doing what your doing, and keep you treasures hidden!

“Less shabby chic, more just shabby”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

We stayed in an apartment in the stable block during the winter months. 2 bedrooms, one bathroom and a large open plan kitchen and sitting room.
Sure, the place has character and great gardens to explore. But for the price we paid for a week here I'd like a bit more than a 70s style bathroom, old electric hob oven, peeling wallpaper and random kitchen utensils. If I was a guest at Walcot, a few days here would be a great experience but I don't plan on returning as a paying customer. I'm sure many adore this place, but I like to holiday in places where my domestic life is made easier, not more challenging.

“Lake View Yurt... Simply amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

Recently stayed at Walcot Hall in one of their Yurts... Have to say it was amazing the yurt is well equipped with a log burner and logs/kindling, tastefully decorated, clean, well appointed, and a view to die for!

We stayed here for 2 nights in October, a bit nippy in the nighttime, but we had kind weather and made the most of our weekend, bit disappointed in huge powis arms pub, I'll be reviewing that soon... But I would strongly recommend a visit here, stay in one the 2 yurts, they share a toilet and wash shed, no shower up there but who needs it... It's camping!
