“Excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2011 via mobile

The hotel is very quaint and as others have said, has an old English pub feel. We had a perfectly adequate room. There are a few bits in the rooms that need to be fixed - thicker curtains and a shower which was playing up. But breakfast was lovely and Martin was helpful and friendly throughout our stay.

The hotel had been out of use for a little while so it was with some trepidation that we used its facilties - a big group of us, using every room.

We need not have worried - Martin, the new manager, was absolutely fantastic - could not do enough for us, friendly, welcoming, helpful. This is the sort of service that others are judged by and we'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Ask Martin about the room with the 4 poster.

Having spent the day hiking up Snowdon we arrived at The Talbot Hotel in Cleobury Mortimer cold, wet and shattered from 6 hours of walking and a 2 hour drive. Mark and his lovely wife instantly made us feel welcome and helped us to our room with the minimum of fuss. We were surprised to hear that the Hotel had been completely redecorated in only the last 4 weeks ! We had a lovely room overlooking the Crooked Spire of Cleobury Mortimer and in the morning had an excellent full English breakfast - all the food sourced from local farmers. The pub has a quaint old English feel to it and is very easy to relax in, and our hosts were very welcoming and considering they have only been in the Hotel for a short time they are very engaging and popular with the locals. We will return !

The Talbot is a beautiful looking old hotel. It could be so brilliant if only someone took the time to renovate the place. The dingey dark bar smelled of cigarette smoke. The rooms were dirty and they too had a bad smell. Our room was so small you couldn't swing a cat in it. The breakfast was made by the same woman who was later seen cleaning the loos. We were never asked if we wanted breakfast, it was just put in front of us. We had booked a four day stay but moved to another hotel, The King's Arms two days later.
