I love this building and can imagine Downton Abbey being filmed there. The staff are all very friendly and will do anything asked of them. The hotel is naturally very old and has no lifts and if you are on the 2nd floor you need to be fit to get to your room. We had a lovely room and this is the 2nd time we have stayed at the hotel so we knew about the hike to the room, but if there was any way they could install a lift it would really help business. We were there for New Years Eve and they were completely full so we expected it to be busy. The buffet was well organised but it was served on white clothes, with white material between the plates and served on white plates and all looked very bland, They really needed to learn to decorate the buffet tables. The food itself was not bland, but I was put off before eating. The actual New years Eve celebrations were a little sad. They had a disco rather than a band which gave no atmosphere, even if they had a plasma screen with the TV and fireworks it would have been something. There were no fireworks at midnight (this could have been because of the rural animals) But as soon as midnight struck it was over. OK the disco continued till 2pm but most people left or went into the bar for a quiet drink. I am not slating the hotel just giving some constructive criticism on the event. I think a little investment in the main building would help. The price for the hotel was good. My only complaint is the mattresses they are really ready for replacing. Ours was soggy and lumpy and we really did not sleep well.
