“What a shame”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

After going to the Lord Nelson at least once a week for 2 years I can honestly say tonight was the worst. I don't expect 5* food but after waiting almost an hour I got what I could only describe as the bottom of a burnt pot of rice with some sort of korma flavored soup? The staff were oblivious. Could have done with Phil and his people around. Disgusting :(

“Meat and potatoes.”

Food and service is OK. Nowt special but good value if you need to fill a hole.

It does have a nice beer garden for the summer days and plenty of parking spaces.

“Reasonably quiet, polite and helpful staff, it's value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

Had a very pleasant day out at the White Horse Uffington and I was looking for somewhere to eat on the way home. Spotted this place near a roundabout with plenty of parking and drove in. The food was OK, but the service makes up for the less than spectacular food. Would I go back there again, yes.

“Hit and Miss”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

We have eaten at the Nelson a few times with no complaints. Last Friday however, it was like they had totally different staff in who had no idea on how to cook. We went with a friend of mine and her 2 children. On our order we wanted jacket potato with pulled pork and burrito with pulled pork. There was no pulled pork, so we had to choose something else (which cost more). My husband had a hawaiian pizza. Every other time he has eaten this here the sauce has been up to the edge, as has the cheese, and it has ham and pineapple on it. This time the sauce was about 2 inches away from the edge, hardly any toppings and undercooked. We ordered 2 portions of nachos with cheese and salsa. Both came with no salsa and the nachos were burnt. The mash on one of the kids meals tasted sweet and very odd. The plain basmati rice on one of the kids meals turned out to be bright yellow and tasting very strong of cloves.

Usually we are asked if everything is ok, but after serving the meals the staff scarpered and didn't come back. At the end of the meal we waited ages for staff to clear the table, at which point we complained about the meals. We received a refund for the 2 kids meals that were not very nice.

It really has put me off going again as the overall standard of food was pretty awful compared to how it was the last time we went less than a month ago.
