“THE BEST Indian Cuisine in South Oxfordshire, they deserve every award”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2011

We are regulars either for a sit-down with family and/or friends or for a take-away. We have never had a bad meal and the manager, Adab, is alway there to welcome you!

The menu is varied and appealing and they are always willing to adapt if you want hotter/milder etc, or a variation - would recommend a chilli-garlic naan which is not on the menu.

Everything is always fresh and hot, even the take-away!

“ELAICHI.....BEST BY FAR”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2011

We have also been regular visitors to Elaichi in Grove since it opened 12 years ago and in all that time have never had anything but first class food and service, the staff always remember you from the very first time you visit, and manager Abab is one of the nicest people you could wish to meet.
I really cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, but don`t take my word for it ...try it yourself

“Hands down, the best curry around here.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2011

It's an odd place to find an Indian Restaurant, in the corner of a small shopping square, but that's where the oddities end.
We (as a family) have been visiting the Elaichi since it opened in Grove, and in those 12 years I cannot ever remember being disappointed once.
Lets start with the service, always friendly - quick and attentive - sure they struggle occasionally when it's uber-busy and every table is full, but you are always made to feel welcome and you never wait too long for anything.
The decor is now rather contemporary and rather nice, a lot more modern than the strange mix of Greek / Indian murals that used to adorn the walls.
To the best bit.... the food.
I visit a lot of Indian restaurants, and am used to rather average bowls of the same tasting and same looking reddish/brownish mix with rather over powering levels of chili and un-appetising amounts of Ghee swimming around.
This is something you'll never find at the Elaichi, each dish is freshly prepared with the finest and freshest ingredients.
I tend to prefer lamb and cycle between Lamb Dhansak, Lamb Pathia, Lamb Madras and occasionally something totally different. The lamb here is perfection. In some places it is overcooked and is moist and tender but lacking in flavour, in other places it can be tough old mutton, but the Lamb at the Elaichi tastes of Lamb, and falls apart like a piece of fish shop cod.
I love a hot curry, and if you ask they will pep up or pep down any of the dishes on the menu, but more than a hot curry I love a curry where you can enjoy the individual taste of the ingredients and flavours of the individual spices - this is what I feel sets the Elaichi apart from the normal run of the mill curry houses. The menu reflects this with a lot of different flavoured dishes as well as the de facto Bangladeshi favourites.
To summerise, and being totally honest I would put the Elaichi up at the top of the pile in the South of England, I think their cooking blows the supposed top restaurant in the area (Aziz) out of the water.
Give them a go - you won't be disappointed.
