“Break including New Years Eve”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

Maria and Paul have worked so hard to make this hotel a very friendly and welcoming place. The staff are pleasant, helpful and approachable, nothing is to much trouble for them. We stayed for three nights over New Years Eve, which was excellent. The food is always superb, and as I have problem with eating, the Chef managed to always find an alternative for me. The whole ambience of New Years Eve was really great, the dining room looked lovely, and the whole effort on everybodys part to make it a wonderful and happy occasion worked. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, so we will be back again . Look forward to seeing you soon.
Thank you. Rita and David

Room Tip: We had a room facing the garden lovely views

Booked to go to the mill house hotel over a year ago for a mini break after our wedding. Could not have chosen anywhere better. To start with, the atmosphere was superb, with a live band playing in the bar. The room was spacious, exceptionally clean and modern. And the food- phenomenal!!!! Would definitely book to stay again, absolutely wonderful

I went to Kingham on a one day trip with my friend and we had dinner at The Mill.
We both had a steak and it was really tasty and tender. The place was lovely and the staff were really nice.
Definitely a place I'd come again if I return to Kingham.

This was the second time we have stayed and brought some friends this time. What a lovely time we had, the staff are very friendly and helpful, lovely gardens, beautiful house and so peaceful. The food was excellent, there is not an extensive menu but what they served was pipping hot and a treat to eat.
After a trip to Blenheim Palace we returned mid afternoon for a bar snack and cream tea, hot scones, pot of jam and cream in the lounge of this lovely old converted mill, makes me smile recalling. Rooms were a good size with large comfy clean beds. Our friends agree we will all be back again.

Room Tip: Some ground floor rooms have big windows facing the gardens lovely to look out with morning coffee...

My friend and I took a winter break at the Mill House Hotel. We arrived on a Friday evening after a fairly difficult journey and were relieved to find there was ample space to park. The first thing that struck us was the beautiful surroundings and how pretty the hotel looked all lit up in the dark. We were met by a very friendly receptionist and we booked dinner for that evening in the restaurant.

We were shown to our room (number 3) and were delighted with what we saw. The room was split level, the beds and bathroom were on the upper part with a couple of steps leading down to the wardrobes, TV and dressing table. There were windows on both levels and three radiators that we could set to the temperature we required. The bathroom had a good shower and two sinks (which was very handy when it came to us two girls getting ready for the evening!) The toilet paper was the good kind – quilted and scented and the toiletries were lovely.

Included in the room was a hairdryer, spare pillows and a tea tray with really good quality tea, coffee and home-made biscuits in a jar. Delicious!

After reading about the fascinating history of the building, a former mill, we went down to dinner (half an hour earlier than our booking) to have a drink. We were served by friendly bar staff and settled down in seats by the roaring fire. The waiter took our order for dinner before showing us to our seats in the dining room. The waitress then offered us a choice of breads. I had the tomato bread which was incredibly tasty. There was already water on the table which was a nice touch. The three course meal was absolutely incredible! Over the course of the two evenings our meals included starters of rabbit (with delicious home-made Piccalilli) and salmon with caviar. Our main courses included pork with scallops and apple sorbet as well as Seabass with cockles and mussels. Dessert included home-made mousse and a delicious cheeseboard. Everything tasted extremely fresh and there were lovely little touches to every dish. All the meals were very special.

Later we went to the bar where we had some delicious, heated Remy Martins before bed. The beds themselves were incredibly comfortable. We were in a twin room but the single beds were a good size and we slept very well.

Breakfast was genuinely the best I have ever had in any hotel I have ever stayed in. The pictures do not really do it justice. Everything we could have wanted from the large selection of fresh juices, cereals, croissants, jams and Marmite as well as bowls of nibbles from cherries, forest fruits, fresh fruit, grapefruit, almonds, prunes, apricots, nuts, dried banana, apple rings, melon slices, poppy seeds and yoghurts (in lovely little glass pots) were available while we waited for our main dish. One morning I had haddock with perfectly poached eggs and chives and the next I had salmon with scrambled eggs. My friend had a full English on one day and ham and cheese the next.

We then took a little walk around the grounds before visiting the nearby Stow-On-The-Wold which is a pretty little village with lots of free parking. We ate lunch at England’s Oldest Inn (947AD) “The Porch House”. Though it was expensive it was worth it for the experience. We bought lots of locally made chocolate and locally produced pies and cakes which were amazing.

On the way back we stopped at nearby “Kingham Plough” where I had the best Bloody Mary I have ever had. We then stopped at the Wild Rabbit which had a wonderful atmosphere. We were lucky to get seats by the fire as the wind and rain raged outside.

We were very sad to leave on Sunday morning, especially as we had felt so very looked after by the close-knit team of staff who made us feel extremely welcome at every point of our stay. I would definitely recommend the Mill House Hotel and I would definitely visit again. We only found out when we got there that it is just a few minutes from a mainline railway station and I think that next time I would travel here by train. If you have time I would also recommend a stop at Stratford Upon Avon (Shakespeare’s country) which is about a half hour drive away.

Many thanks for your wonderful, detailed review of your stay at the Mill House, we are most grateful.
I'm delighted to hear that you were pleased with your room and indeed the food you ate during your stay. I'm a big fan of Chef's breakfasts myself so I have to agree with you there!

Please let us know if you intend to arrive by train next time you stay with us as we do offer a complimentary collection service from Kingham Station. It is well within walking distance but sometimes people prefer to be collected if they have heavy luggage etc....

Thanks once again for taking the time to leave your review and posting your pictures. We look forward to welcoming you both back again soon.

its one year since Paul and Maria took over the Mill House Hotel and what a superb job they have done. the improvements they have made are excellent but mostly its the hospitality and friendliness that have transformed the hotel into a welcoming venue for guests and locals.
the 2 course lunch menu for £10.00 is incredible value and is unbeatable for quality anywhere in the area.
thank you to all the staff that make the Mill the place to relax and unwind.
best wishes for the future and more success you deserve it for all your hard work.

I remeber the Mill at Kingham when John Bruce bought it and refurbished it some 50 years ago. He did a remarkable job and a feature, sadly lost, was the glass floor in the bar which revealed the water mill workings under your feet.

It is now run by a family who provide excellent lunches from an a la carte menu or a table d'hote with choices. The latter offers two courses for about £10 and three for £15. The food is excellent quality, beautifully presented and nicely served by personable young people. We always take our own guests there and have never been disappointed. If you are in the area try it: you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Haven't stayed there.
