“my sons wedding 6th April 2013”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

My son got married at the Sudbury House Hotel, Farringdon last Saturday and had the most fantastic day ever.

The staff were amazing!

The operations manager Ulrice (I hope I have got her name correct) was the most professional hotel manager I have ever encountered - I worked in the hotel industry for many years and have never met anyone with such commitment).

From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were treated by ALL the staff with so much courtesy and friendliness. The rooms were very clean and every effort was made by housekeeping to get the rooms ready early for the guests arriving on Saturday so they could get ready for a 2pm wedding

The wedding breakfast room was set up to the very highest standard.

The speeches ran very late and we were all eating the wedding breakfast after the speeches - but the food was kept back for us and was wonderful.

The waiting staff were a credit to the hotel, very attentive and very efficient.

The only criticism I had had was that there was a queue at the bar, I went to reception and said I had a concern that our guests were queuing and literally within minutes the receptionist had reported this to the Operations manager and three extra staff were sent to the bar

The hotel was a major factor in the success of my son's and daughter in law's wedding day and I thank your fantastic staff under the leadership of the wonderful Ulrice who only managed an hour sleep that night so she could be up to supervise a very busy breakfast service the day after the wedding.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone considering a wedding venue

Thank you for your lovely comments and also for the correspondence made directly with us at the hotel.

A wedding day is such a special day for all involved including the hotel and staff and we are delighted that you all had such a wonderful time.

We would like you wish the newly weds a very happy future together and we hope that they will come and celebrate their first anniversary with us next year.

A group of over forty of us have stayed for a weekend over more than ten years and we would not have returned had there been any major dissatisfaction. This year our party were all impressed by the new manager who hailed from South Africa (where breakfasts are hard to beat.) Her attention to detail showed, and she was not afraid to take a hands on approach and help her staff with whatever was necessary. The menu was more imaginative, the food delicious, and there was absolutely no problem with my need for a gluten free diet.
The beds were comfortable, the rooms warm despite the snow outside; all in all this was our particular best hotel experience in the past twelve months, which includes stays in Malta, Sicily, Cyprus and Russia.

Room Tip: The rooms on three floors are of a consistent standard having been built as an extension to the orig...

We stay at this hotel every year and this year were greeted by a new manager. She is young and very caring. We were pleased when she welcomed our party and was very 'hands on'. Previously, the manager was not around on the Sunday but Ulrika was. We found her serving behind the bar, in the restaurant and on the reception desk. She made everybody feel that nothing was too much trouble and was extremely friendly. There were also a lot of new staff who were correspondingly good. We went away very happy and are looking forward to our next stay.

Room Tip: All the rooms we have stayed in through the years are equally good and well maintained. The room wa...

This Best Western is fairly typical of the brand - a bit tired, and in need of a re-furb, but not able to generate enough income to warrant investment. Nicely located with plenty of grounds and local walks, the hotel is well placed on the edge of the Cotswolds. The rooms are small, and have all the basics one would expect, but the corridors are tiny and help to give the impression of a budget hotel. The staff are fine in the main, but the receptionist we met was very shy, unsmiling, and appeared quite distant - no attempt to ask if we had had a nice stay on departure for example! Bar and table staff were keen and interested, and the menu and quality of food was surprisingly pleasing. We left feeling we had had good value for money, but that this hotel might struggle in the current climate, due to lack of a strong selling point - Faringdon itself is not a major tour spot and the hotel does not have a spa or pool facility.

Thank your for your review and for the four star rating you gave us.

We of course are delighted that you feel that we offer good value for money and many people find us a good base to visit the surrounding areas of the Cotswolds, Oxford and Swindon, offering a variety of things to do from walking, visting the many National Trust sites in the area or the excellent shopping centres of both Oxford and Swindon, including the well known designer outlet village on the outskirts of Swindon.

The hotel does have a planned redecorating programme for the bedrooms and public areas. We have completed the bar and lounge areas already along with about 18 bedrooms and are planning to continue this throughout the coming year.

I hope that you will consider visting us again in the future to experience the continuing improvement of the hotel and the training of our new colleagues.

Just returned from a two night stay on a Living Social deal. The hotel was very good, good room, and excellent breakfast and the staff, without exception, were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel,is ideally situated just five minutes walk from the town and easy access to Oxford. We went into Oxford on the local bus which runs every 30mins and takes about 40 mins and saves the hassle of parking in the city. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night and the food was very good and reasonably priced.

When we reached the hotel it did look a bit dowdy from the outside and the reception area was the same, receptionist was very nice and welcoming. Our room was not what we expected it was very dated and a little depressing needs a revamp. Bed was hard so did not get a good night sleep. we dined at the hotel restaurant on two occasions, on the second occasion there was only the two of us in the restaurant we ordered a burger & fries, steak & chips which took 45 mins to cook, burger was raw in the middle & steak was rare not what i ask for sent it back it came back cremated chef was haveing a bad day lol staff were very apologetic. On a more possitive note hotel was clean, nice and warm, breakfast was fine and hotel staff were very nice and friendley.

Room Tip: Read reviews before booking, things look a lot better on the net than reality.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for all the positive points about our welcoming staff, good breakfast and friendly service.

We do pride ourselves on our service and ensuring our guests have a good experience during their stay and of course we were disappointed thaat some aspects of your stay did not meet our usual high standards that you can see documented in other Trip Advisor reports.

As you will see from other reviews our food is often mentioned as being of very high standard and good quality and we can only apologise that we did not meet this standard during your dining experience.

I hope that if you are in the area again you will give us another try as we are refurbishing our bedrooms on a rolling programme, updating them as we go along.
