“Our weekend break at Sudbury House Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

When we reached the hotel it did look a bit dowdy from the outside and the reception area was the same, receptionist was very nice and welcoming. Our room was not what we expected it was very dated and a little depressing needs a revamp. Bed was hard so did not get a good night sleep. we dined at the hotel restaurant on two occasions, on the second occasion there was only the two of us in the restaurant we ordered a burger & fries, steak & chips which took 45 mins to cook, burger was raw in the middle & steak was rare not what i ask for sent it back it came back cremated chef was haveing a bad day lol staff were very apologetic. On a more possitive note hotel was clean, nice and warm, breakfast was fine and hotel staff were very nice and friendley.

Room Tip: Read reviews before booking, things look a lot better on the net than reality.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for all the positive points about our welcoming staff, good breakfast and friendly service.

We do pride ourselves on our service and ensuring our guests have a good experience during their stay and of course we were disappointed thaat some aspects of your stay did not meet our usual high standards that you can see documented in other Trip Advisor reports.

As you will see from other reviews our food is often mentioned as being of very high standard and good quality and we can only apologise that we did not meet this standard during your dining experience.

I hope that if you are in the area again you will give us another try as we are refurbishing our bedrooms on a rolling programme, updating them as we go along.

Good food and service but this was a large Hotel Dining Room better suited for Weddings and was a little impersonal. Nothing to complain about but again nothing exceptional to report. Usual price for three course Sunday Lunch is £16 per head - Mothers Day add a small pot of pansies and it is suddenly £19.95 per head. No need for flowers on Mothers Day unless you forgot to buy your mum some proper flowers.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

We are pleased that you you enjoyed the food and service when you visited us on Mothers Day.

We added the flowers for " Mum " as a little added extra on this special day but appreciate your comments, although on the whole the feedback from the day was that many of the mothers enjoyed the gift.

We do use the main hotel dining area for weddings and large functions and we have an additional smaller dining room which is more cosy and intimate for quieter days. However, we had over 100 guests booked on Mothers Day so we had to use the larger room on this occasion.

Thank you again for the positive comments about the food and service which will be conveyed to the team working on that day.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights (Thursday and Friday) and although the outside of the Hotel was looking a little tired, the inside was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful with all aspects of our stay including advise about local places of interest which was very useful. We were staying on a 'Bed and Breakfast' basis but decided to eat in the restaurant on the Friday evening. The menu was good and the food excellent. My only complaint with the stay was that when checking out we found someone had added our restaurant bill up incorrectly and overcharged us, however the matter was soon resolved. Overall I would recommend staying at Sudbury House Hotel but hope for good weather if planning to walk to Faringdon Folly which is just behind the Hotel.

Room Tip: The Hotel is quite big so you can have a walk to reception if in one of the more remote rooms. There...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review and for the lovely comments about the hotel.

The hotel is in a very good location to explore the local area being close to Oxford, Blenheim Palace, the Cotswolds villages and also Swindon,

We are delighted you enjoyed your evening meal with us, apologies again for the mix up with the bill but we are pleased that it was sorted out for you before you left.

I hope that we will have the pleasure of your company again soon

We stayed here the weekend of 8th -10th March 2013 as a prize in a competition in our local newspaper, we were delighted with our stay. The local town of Faringdon was very nice and we enjoyed a pub lunch there on the Friday and were still too full to eat an evening meal later on that night! The breakfast was everything you could ask for and you could eat as much as you liked.
We didnt eat any other meals at the hotel as we were busy visiting the surrounding areas.
The hotel was very warm and welcoming and the grounds were beautiful, the decor in the bedrooms was very tired and stuck in the 90s but the room was very clean.
The lady on reception and the bar on the Friday evening was very friendly and made us very welcome even finding us a pack of playing cards to play with when asked.
The local villages were very nice and there were plenty of lovely restaurants to choose from locally and Oxford iself was just fantastic full of all the old buildings you could wish for but plenty of top shops for the shopaholics too! All in all a great base for a weekend away.

I spent two nights with friends at the Sudbury. It did everything I wanted from a hotel, although we only had breakfast there. The staff were friendly and efficient even when I had a problem with my bath, the staff couldn't be faulted at how quickly and efficiently they moved me to another room without fuss. Congratulations on serving local real ales, excellent.

I stayed for the weekend as part of a group of forty people for a reunion. What a thoroughly pleasant weekend it turned out to be; the staff could not be more welcoming. The Duty Manager bent over backwards to make everything work for us; no request was too small for her. The hotel was nice and clean, and wonderfully warm on one of the coldest days of the year. The restaurant provided some excellent meals over the weekend.
Strange room numbers ! - If your room begins with a 2, you will find it on the first floor ! If it begins with a 3, it will of course be on the second floor - silly you !

Thank you for writing a review about your reunion here at the hotel and for the excellent feedback about all aspects of the hotel.

I know the team here enjoyed having you here and although I understand that you don't normally return to the same hotel twice, you are considering returning here next year !

What else can be said, except we look forward to seeing you in 2014 !

Stayed here for two nights and I couldn't fault this place, and I am fussy! The staff were so friendly, kind and accommodating. It was lovely and warm, even though it was freezing cold outside. The food was excellent. Only slight criticism was that decor rather dated but, hopefully, this will be rectified in due course. Everywhere was spotlessless cean and well maintained. Thank you Sudbury House Hotel for a very pleasant stay.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for the positive comments about the hotel.

Although our decor is not the most up to date, we pride ourselves on ensuring that all our guests have a relaxing and enjoyable stay with us whether they are here for business or leisure and we hope that you will come and stay with us again very soon.

As you can see from our previous replies we are addressing the redecoration of the hotel on a rolling programme so hopefully next time you come you will be able to benefit from that.
