Owner description: Clumber is a beautiful expanse of parkland, heath and woods covering more than 3,800 acres.Clumber Park was once the country estate of the Dukes of Newcastle. Although the house was demolished in 1938, there are glimpses of its grand past to explore - from the Gothic-style chapel, often referred to as a 'cathedral in miniature', you can follow in the footsteps of dukes through the peaceful pleasure ground to the Walled Kitchen Garden, where you can experience sights, scents and a taste of the past.Today Clumber offers freedom to discover a ducal park and provides a haven for wildlife within an idyllic setting. With 3,800 acres of picturesque parkland and gardens, peaceful woodlands and a magnificent lake to enjoy there is plenty of space to explore and relax with your family and friends. Not only is Clumber's mosaic of habitats home to an amazing array of wildlife, it is also a great place to spot it.And there's much more to explore.

“The countryside at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

A nice day in January and wanted to blow away some cobwebs - the lakeside was a lovely walk and the attendant swans,Canada geese, moorhens and coots accompanied us along some of the way, their attendance was taken over by squirrels who dashed across our path or sat on a tree nibbling what I thought was a custard cream biscuit but reliably informed was an acorn. As someone previously said more information boards telling the history would be nice but if you just want fresh air and miles of walking space this is the place. It cost £6 to park unless a NT member but you do get a free and you could easily spend a whole day there in summer - you are free to drive around from area to area as long as you show your permit.

Definitely on my places to go for a picnic list!!

“Nice place to potter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

We stopped off en route for Woksop essentaillay to break the journey, have a walk by the lake and find some lunch. It was a bit chilly being January, so we didn't exoplore the miles of paths; just stayed by the lake and enjoyed the views. Lunch in the cafe was very good (and not that expensive by National trust standards).

“must come back in summer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014

Miles of woodland walks, with multitudes of birds, a lovely lake (there may be more than one) and a beautiful chapel. It would have been more interesting if someone was in attendance to give us some history.

“Boxing Day visit!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

A nice visit to a beautiful park. Very popular with walkers and ideal to take the dogs and children. The grounds are massive and on a nice day a picnic would be great. A large lake with ducks and geese for young children. A beautiful church to look around for the adult. Don't go looking for a manor house or you will be looking for a long time! It's no longer there but the stables are a cafe shop and visitors centre.
