Really enjoyed our Groupon stay here 16th May. The hotel was hidden away at the top of the town right at the start of the street market. We were made very welcome when we arrived, and 10 minutes after arriving in our room, we received a phone call to ask if we were happy with the room. The room was large, very clean and had everything we needed (including an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe). We also had a bottle of wine included in the deal which was in our room with two wine glasses! We slept like tops in the large comfortable bed and enjoyed a buffet full English breakfast downstairs. My only problem with this hotel (which is must say adds to the character of the hotel) is that there is a lot of stairs going up to the bedrooms, and down to the bar/dining room. The room where the food was had steps up and down too... I managed ok (even though i need a new knee and have problems with steps) but there was a lady in a wheelchair and I feel as though the staff should have opened the main front door to let her in the dinning room, rather than her having to leave her chair at the internal door and walk into the room.
I certainly don't want to put people off going to stay because we had a wonderful stay, and its certainly in a great location. We walked round the streets during the evening and the amount of history in that area was amazing....
We will definitely go back again and continue our exploration of that area.

Room Tip: Just be aware of the steps up to the bedrooms which on the right side get narrower as you go round t...

Hi,

Thank you for your lovely comments about your stay here with us. We are really pleased that you enjoyed everything about it. As we are an old coaching inn, there are a few steps to many of our public areas, we do try and accommodate where possible and we happily help guests get to places such as the restaurant if they struggle with steps. We do have a door in the car park that enables them to get through. In regards to breakfast we are glad that you enjoyed it we put on as much choice as possible as we know everyone is different. I have passed your comments on to the kitchen and food and beverage team.

We like to ensure that your room is as comfortable as possible and that you get a great nights sleep. We want you to have that home from home feel and wake up feeling all refreshed.

We are in a great place in as we are central but not where the noise is. There are also lots of fantastic attractions around us which are all in a reasonable driving distance.

We hope that we will see you again in the future.

Just returned from an overnight bank holiday Groupon stay. Reception was very friendly but gave us no information at all. I asked where breakfast was and was told to come to reception tomorrow morning and they'd tell us where we needed to go. We paid for an upgrade and were given room 207. Initially there was an absolutely disgusting smell in the room, which was emanating from the bathroom - we turned on the taps in the bath and bidet and let them run and the smell went. Other than that the room was good - very clean and spacious with a very comfy queen size bed. The bathroom was spacious and there was a great supply of toiletries - so many in fact that there was no room on the shelf for anything of our own! The shower was very powerful. Later in the evening we asked at the bar for newspapers and what time checkout was. The breakfast was fine - not the superb buffet I was expecting after reading other reviews but it was perfectly fine, other than having to carry your food up several steps that go round a blind corner to get to your table from the buffet, which I think is a health and safety issue. Would definitely stay here again. The staff were very friendly - the only issue here is that reception should give you the relevant information when you check in.

Room Tip: pay extra for an upgrade if your doing a Groupon.

This hotel is a little gem in an old mining town on the edge of Sherwood Forest. The perfect location for walking in the forest and a visit to Major Oak at the Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre and then to the hotel which was spotlessly clean. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional. The food was amazing and we can definitely recommend the rump steak - which was cooked to perfection. We originally went there on a groupon voucher and were so impressed we went again 2 weeks later for our wedding anniversary and will definitely go again.

Thank you for the great comments and its brilliant to hear that you enjoyed your stay so much that you came back for a second time. We always treat our guests the way that we our selves would like to be treated. I have passed you comments regarding your meal on to the Head Chef and the rest of his team.

We hope that we can welcome you back in the future for another great stay with us.

Got a great deal via Groupon for this £39 B&B incl bottle Prosecco and our dog came too!
Staff were excellent - friendly and welcoming on arrival and at breakfast the following morning.
Room was clean and comfortable with tea/coffee/ iron/hairdryer. Breakfast buffet plentiful and tasty. The only improvement I would suggest ( and its a teeny weeny one!) would be to keep a small fridge at the reception area to give the guests their wine chilled on arrival rather than at room temperature. Thank you Lion Hotel we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!

Hi,

It is lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for taking the time to leave some great comments. We always try to be as accommodating as possible and we know that people who have animals being able to bring them is important.

We do have a large variety for breakfast as we like to ensure that we can cater for everyone. I am very pleased to hear that you enjoyed all this.

Thank you for the feedback regarding the prosecco this is something that we are looking in to as at the moment not all rooms have fridges and we want you to have it as soon as you arrive.

We hope to see you again in the future.

Just returned from an overnight stay at this hotel with a Groupon voucher (£39), we upgraded to an executive room (£20) & we would recommend it to anyone. The room & bathroom were spotless, very spacious & comfortable. We were at the front of the building above the bar but no issue with noise at all. The staff were all very pleasant & polite, the young gentleman that served us behind the bar in afternoon & also that night in the restaurant, couldn't have been more helpful & accommodating, sorry I didn't get his name, but he is a credit to his profession. Well done to all the staff, keep up the good work.
Our evening meal in the restaurant was delicious as was the breakfast next morning.
Only a couple of negative points, which I meant to put on the comments form, but forgot :-
There is more parking space under the archway at the side of the hotel, but it isn't obvious & it's too late when you've paid for parking elsewhere to be told this when you check in.
Also it would have been nice for the complimentary bottle of prosecco to have been chilling in the fridge instead of getting warm on the dressing table.
But neither of these points spoiled our stay, enjoyed it totally, wouldn't hesitate to return. Thank you all.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to leave some lovely comments about your stay at the hotel. We are very pleased that you enjoyed it. We always treat guests as we would like to be treated that is why you get such great customer service when staying with us.

I will pass the comments on to the Head Chef Nathan and his team regarding your delicious meal.

We do have more car parking and thank you for the feedback about it not being made very clear this is something that can be put on confirmations so this will be looked into. In regards to your prosecco please accept our apologies, at the moment not all rooms have fridges so we keep them cool for as long as possible but we like them to be in your room when you arrive ice buckets are available on request.

We hope that we can welcome you back to stay with us in the future.
