Description: Just a short hop from the non-stop of Nottingham, Langar Hall is a million miles from the citys buzz. Set in a small country hotel, it combines an historic atmosphere with sophisticated dcor and delicious fine dining. Popular with locals and visitors, Langar Halls intimate dining room has a classic sophistication, with white tablecloths and gleaming tableware, which makes every meal feel like a special occasion. The menu is equally simple and classic, reflecting the English country house style in the use of local ingredients, including a good line in meats and cheeses from nearby farms the true taste of Nottinghamshire couldnt be further from mushy peas and mint sauce.

“An excellent evening out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

We went there last night and it was amazing! The menu is quite pricey but that was expected and the food was all worth it. There were 6 of us in our group and every single one of us loved the food. The service was excellent. The owner even came to say hello. The actual hall was lovely. Shabby sheik. Comfortable and not at all pretentious. I felt right at home there. I would have no hesitation in going again and again.

Thank you for that lovely review. Actually the owner was slightly drunk from whiskey & ginger to get warm. She had to go off early! Hope to see you again. Santosh

“Excellent Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Sunday lunch is table d'hote with a good choice for each of three courses and, priced at a touch under £30 including coffee, represents excellent value. The service is friendly and attentive, the food is well presented, cooked to perfection and the portion size just right. An extensive wine list offers wine by the glass and bottles from about £17 and upwards.

Langar Hall offers an excellent Sunday lunchtime experience in a delightful setting. Well worth going the extra mile.

Thank you for your appreciative review for our traditional Sunday Lunch. Regretfully we have to increase the price from April 1st to £32.50. I'm pestering Ken Clarke, our local MP to reduce the VAT for restaurants. 20% is a killer!

“Fabulous Food”

Try the local lamb.
Beautiful service, and attention to detail.
The South African house red is great value.

Thank you for your encouraging review. The South African wine is La Petite Ferme from Franschok, the house wine of that Michelin star restaurant there where some of our customers seem to have visited. We get it from Charles Stevenson a wine merchant in Cornwall. Not exactly local but worth it.

“Excellent food but poor organisation and customer care”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Mmm. Since you probably planning to go because of the food, be assured it is good. Very, very good. Well prepared and presented; inventive; tastes beautiful; plentiful. The chef has an eye for detail, and they served perhaps one of the nicest desserts I have ever had. Sourcing is not commented upon.
But if a good ingredient is to make your customers feel special and well cared for - perhaps we had an off-night. We came in from the rain to a vacant reception and no directions, we wondered forward and found a head waiter who showed us to a cramped bar and left us with another staff member who also disappeared within moments (interestly the same person who earlier on the phone had been keen to ask my wife's name when I'd mentioned the signifiance of the occasion - not sure why because it was not recognised during the evening). 15 minutes later we were taken through to a lounge and our orders taken. After another 20 minutes we were taken to our table where we waited another 40 minutes for our first course to arrive. No amuse bouche. The proprietor (possibly) did make a tour of the tables stopping at ours only to offer, unprompted, that our starters would arrive soon. Unusually long waits between courses. No-one checks that the food is satisfactory. Staff are friendly but their service unrefined. At the end of the evening, further issues too long to report here, staff had disappeared only to reappear as we neared to exit door. Given the many alternatives I'd think twice before bothering again.

Thank you for you very helpful review. It must have been that overbooked saturday night when the chefs were very cross with me for squeezing in too many old customers, Everyone arrives between 7.30pm & 8pm regardless of the time they have booked, I recognise myself asking for your special occasion on the telephone then forgetting to pass on the information for your wife's birthday menu. And again probabley in the bar where I am slow and unreliable. The party in another room sat late causing problems with the service, and I spent most of the evening in the pot wash. Goodness knows where our usually attentive restaurant manager got to? probably covering bills and reception. I have promised everyone not to exceed 60 on a saturday night especially when there is a large party. Now our bar girl and pot washer are back to work thankfully I can resume my role with the guests. . I appologise for the long wait you experienced and for your disappointment.
I advise new customers to avoid saturday nights which tend to be too busy for such a small restaurant where the staff are scattered over three other dining rooms, and you don't get the special attention that is so often mentioned in other reviews.
