“Perfect Wedding Night Getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

My Husband and I stayed on Feb 14th for the night of our wedding. The service was 100% spot on as soon as we arrived. We were greeted by an excellent front of house who immediately took our cases to our room, whilst escorting us to the bar where we received a lovely glass of champagne with raspberries! I would love to know the champagne you served us so we can treat ourselves to a bottle! We were then taken to the lounge area where all the guests congratulated us and then shown to our room where en route the lady of the house insisted on our picture being taken which was lovely. The atmosphere was perfect and very warm and welcoming. Once we arrived at our suite, we were shown around and then left to explore. The rooms were spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. The welcome pack was great as it explained the history of the house and it's past owners. It even went into great detail on the room itself and how it used to be a nursery which we found fascinating.
The next morning, we went downstairs for breakfast and as you can probably guess.....it was fantastic!!
All the food is locally sourced (from what we could tell) and everything was to a top notch standard. We both ordered a full english. Whilst we waited we helped ourselves to cereals and yoghurt. The tea was loose leaf and the coffee freshly ground, Orange juice freshly squeezed etc etc....you get the picture. The waitress was very attentive and polite.
We were planning to stay for lunch but unfortunately there seemed to be a lot to do the day after getting married! We would love to return for dinner one evening as we are certain that it will be just as delicious !
Thank you to all the staff for making our wedding night so memorable and special, it topped off a perfect day and we will definitely be back someday!

Room Tip: The suite we stayed in was called the Brownlow.

I remember you going upstairs in your wedding dress, just missed the perfect photo when I was looking for the camera. You were such a happy couple. Here is wishing you everything wonderful for the rest of your life! Do come back one day and remind me of this.

What a treat. The service and attention to detail in this hotel are some of the very best we have encountered. very attentive and polite staff, with a real customer service focus.
The quality of food is superb, and the Indian room is very intimate and well worth asking for.
Smiling faces greet you on arrival, and continue throughout your stay.
We can recommend Marks room as quiet and comfortable.
We will be going back, and this is certainly the best country hotel (of the circa 30 we have stayed in over the last 12 months).
You will not be disappointed.

Thank you Mr.Gilby, for your kind review, it was great to have you and your guests that evening. You all had a very nice time, with drinks in the white sitting room, followed by candle-lit dinner in the Indian room, with other guests around. We look forward seeing you again soon. Many thanks. Best wishes Santosh

My husband and I stayed here on the 14th of February to celebrate our 25 years together, (cheesy but pure coincidence I assure you). I have never stayed in such a magical place. It is rare to discover a venue which seems so perfect, but Langar Hall is just that. It so effortlessly soothes and restores the body and soul. We would normally retreat long distance to the Loire Valley for this kind of luxury and tranquility.

I have huge respect for the people who work here, they are in a class of their own, professional without being over bearing, friendly without being ingratiating. They are a unique team of people, I couldn't describe them as 'staff'. We met Imogen the owner who made a supreme effort to ensure that everyone was content and well catered for.

The food is just fabulous. we had a tasting menu; pear and stilton salad, scallops, gin and tonic sorbet, fillet of beef, a selection of deserts, cheese on walnut bread. The Langar Hall Champagne Cocktail (champagne, vodka, Archers, elderflower cordial), which we ordered as an aperitif was outstanding. The breakfast, was again scrumptious although I struggled to do it justice! It is important to say at this point that the food is honest and beautiful without being an example of 'emperors clothes cuisine', (a smear of something unrecognisable, adjacent to a tower of small stuff, drizzled with 'Jus of the day'!).
The decor is a unique blend of beloved antique books, china and decorative fine art, interspersed with large cosy sofas, chairs and cushions. We stayed overnight in the Bohemia room which was lovely.
We often find ourselves enjoying a wonderful evening away, but are also glad to arrive home the following morning. I can honestly say that this was not one of those occasions, If I could afford to retire to Langar Hall I would do so without hesitation, (unfortunately work beckons and finances won't allow). I have already booked for lunch in March and am trying to book for another evening soon but it is popular and I am therefore struggling. So hurry, DO go, you will enjoy it, I promise.

Room Tip: We stayed in Bohemia but I think they are probably all lovely. I guess it's like anything else...

We had lunch at Langar Hall recently and I was very impressed by the food and charmed by the house itself. Great service, welcoming and, well, homely is the best word I can think of.

In response to the recent reviewer's comments about other guests smoking, I have to agree. I didn't experience this on my visit but it would have affected my enjoyment. If the owner will accept some advice given with respect, please bear in mind that, in addition to many people not liking others smoking nearby, as the previous reviewer noted it is illegal. It is possible for hotels to designate a smoking bedroom, but not other public rooms. This is not just about other guests' enjoyment, it's about protecting employees from the harmful effects of passive smoking. I can understand the wish to give great service to all guests (including smokers), but please don't spoil this amazing place with smoking! Premises have been fined and even closed down for this - please don't let that happen. I give advice to businesses on health & safety regulation so am well acquainted with this.

Anyway, back to the positive comments - I'm already planning on coming to dine again shortly and looking forward to it.

I live within five miles of langar hall and feel very lucky to have such a marvelous hotel and restaurant so close I dine there regularly have never had to complain but I know if there was a problem imogen or one of her staff would put it right, I have often invited friends over and we have been there for dinner, I know have friends and family who drive up to 60 miles for Sunday lunch or an evening meal and they too have told me it's the nicest friendliest place they have been to, just felt I had to write this comment as the odd couple of people who have left bad feedback in my opinion must be impossible to please as anyone can see it is only one or two but I suppose you can't please everyone, This is always 5 stars and looking forward to going tonight for valentines it's wonderful to know you won't ever be disappointed. I have even stayed over.Teresa lee

Thank you for taking time to leave such a beautiful comment about Langar Hall and Imogen, Teresa Lee. It is very true, its so difficult to please all the customers in today's demanding world. We are glad that you understand. Everybody here, works very hard at Langar Hall, right from the receptionist who receive guests, the chefs who makes the scones and cakes, the waiters who serve,.and the proprietor, who strives for the place.Imogen does try to keep everyone happy from 7am-1am (18hrs shift only, 7days a week, - no off). Many thanks once again. xxxSantosh

My mother in laws 70th birthday yesterday and we decided to visit for lunch, well WOW great food great service clean well run and we visited today with our 4 year old daughter and never felt ashamed to have a child in such a beautiful house and grounds, from the time the door was opened for us until we left with a copy of Imogen's book and my daughter not wanting to leave, we where with you guys for 3 hours and we felt so at home, really HOME. My wife and I are Vegetarians and had a fantastic meal. My Daughters meal was a beautiful Tomato pasta dish which i tried and that was great too.
I do not write reviews very often as i find when i find a great place and tell the world we can never get in again, so we travel a lot of the year for me China Vietnam Thailand Ireland the UK and we live in Chicago but we are from Ireland And Sawtry in the UK, So we go to the Bahamas and the island of Eleuthera for our holidays and now we will visit the UK and stay for 3 days in the spring. and we can not wait, so thank you again, on our drive home we talked about a great day out.Great job guys

I agree with the recent 5 star posts - fine wine, sublime food, comfortable accommodation and beautiful surroundings. However, it is the people who make your stay perfect - professional, discreet and welcoming. Thank you to everyone who madeour stay so lovely - front of house and behind the scenes. We have booked again for a party of 10 for a private dinner and we are thrilled to be returning.
