“Friendly and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

We had a 2 night break here on a Travelzoo deal. Our room was a family room on the second floor with a large double room with a sofa and TV and a two bedded room also with a TV. The room was clean and had a kettle and a nice white china teapot and cups and saucers with a good selection of teas, coffees and biscuits. We ate in the restaurant - my mackerel starter was freshly cooked and tasty. My main was venison which was cooked as I had asked but the venison and the accompanying vegetables could have been hotter. Our meal was served by a friendly and helpful waitress who had earlier offered to carry my bag up to the room. We couldn't fault any of the staff during our stay. They were friendly and helpful. On the second night, we looked in at the Stables bar but didn't stay. It had a huge television blaring out and did not have any easy or comfy seating so we ate in the restaurant again. The lamb was excellent.

I booked this hotel as a birthday treat for my husband & my birthday,as they are only a week apart.
The staff were most helpful, and the food excellent and you have a choice to either eat in the lovely oak dining room. or the bistro . we chose the dining room as it was for a special occasion.

The bedroom was a bit tired looking but was spotless, I would certainly return as the ground are quite extensive and would be most enjoyable to explore when weather permits

We spent a weekend at Otterburn. From the entrance there is a wonderful atmosphere, open log fires and a very friendly welcome. The whole building has been kept in the style it was built in. We were in room 6 which was a large bedroom and large bathroom that overlooked the gardens. The bed was large and comfortable. I will admit that there does require some touch ups in the room but it did not detract from our enjoyment. I was informed there is going to be a refurb next year which will enhance the rooms. Overall we were very comfortable in our room with the tea/coffee tray and dressing gowns. Also lovely large bath sheets. The room was very quiet.

The food was delicious and deserved its 2 rosettes award, the dinning room was also in keep with the building. The service was wonderful.

The only downside was the Monday evening after dinner we were told thet the bar was closing and it was only 10pm. This did spoil our evening as we had only finished dinner at 9-30. We were informed that there was the stable bar which was at the side of the hotel but it had no comfortable sofas to relax on or open fires. We were not the only guests present so we did feel our weekend was a little spoilt.

Thank you for a great two days stay. We booked a two night break and had an upgrade to the library room with a four poster bed. The venue is excellent, the building is superb and though we were unable to enjoy your vast grounds due to the rainy weather the grounds looked great. We enjoyed dinner on our first night. Excellent meal well executed and delivered, well done give the chef an Oscar the food was tasty, plentiful and enjoyable to view before eating. The next night we enjoyed a staightforward burger and chips in the stables bar. They have both areas of dining well covered, with the two separate sections. Staff were very attentive, with the reception extremely knowledgable about the normal running of the business and the history of the building. The dining and breakfast staff could do with some extra help and training with their organisation they seemed to be unable to remember to come back with items asked for. This is an excellent location and with the staff giving a little more attention to detail would be fantastic. The whole experience however has been excellent.

Gorgeous setting and less than an hour's drive from Newcastle travelled up after the Great North Run.We received a ;lovely welcome amd gorgeous rooms really spacious, loads of hot water , stayed with my husband and son and his girlfiend. Beautiful roaring real fires followed by gorgeous food in the restaurant during the evening, had the most delicious seabass with the best rissotto I have tasted for a long time followed by dreamy chocolate sweet. The service was excellent throughout with genuinely friendly and helpful staff. We were given a late checkout to enjoy the excellent services of Louise, the massage therapist, and would highly recommend her services - realy professional. We will certainly try to go back when we are next in the area.

Room Tip: rooms 12 (back) and 15 (front)were both really nice

We recently had our wedding at the Otterburn Castle Country House Hotel. It was everything I had ever dreamed of and couldn't recommend it highly enough. The venue is like something out of a fairy tale and I truely felt like a princess on our special day. The staff were all wonderful and couldn't do enough for us (including making my Dad a midnight bacon butty!) and Carey and Angus were wonderful hosts. Carey was in regular contact with us leading up to the day and made sure we had everything organised the way we wanted it. Angus was an excellent master of ceremonies, keeping us calm and doing everything to make sure the day went smoothly in a really unobtrusive way. The library suite was amazing and I was able to stay the night before the wedding, as well as on the wedding night. Without doubt, the food was the best we had ever had at any wedding. The portion sizes were generous and the food was tasty and fresh. Something we really appreciated was being able to have the whole hotel to ourselves for the wedding. The meant that the day was truely ours and we felt really special. We were also able to party in the Stable Bar until the small hours (sorry to the bar man!). Any prospective brides should definiately check out Otterburn Castle.

My Partner booked us in to the Castle Hotel as a treat before our wedding day on Sat 1st Sept and also so that we could get a feel of what to expect when we stay for a whole weekend. As we have been to Otterburn on many occasions to The Hotel we know most of the staff whom are very polite and will do anything they can to help you. We were in room 12 which over looked the marquee so we thought this would be ideal to see how loud the music was as there was a wedding party that evening. The room was lovely and the bathroom very spacious. We had our evening meal in the restaurant which was included in our price with a bottle of wine. As we had a £30 allowance each we honestly didn't think we would of received such divine food as we did. My partner had wood pigeon whilst I had ham hock for starters, Sirloin steak and Lamb followed by the most desirable warm chocolate fondant, Our waitress Molly was fantastic. After the meal we went for a walk around the grounds which are extremely beautiful at night when the Castle is all lit up. We ventured in to the stable bar which I would say is more suited to the younger generation. Even though the staff are friendly in the bar and the music entertaining we prefer the quieter side so we can enjoy to chat while we drink rather than shout over the music. We both retired at 23.30 to our very comfortable bed, we could hear the music until midnight so we know in future not to book a room at the back of the hotel.
Our Wedding was beautiful, the staff amazing and the hotel's proprietor Angus and the wedding co-ordinator Carey made our day tremendous. The meal was absolutely gorgeous, the rooms were fab and every body thoroughly enjoyed there weekend. We would definitely recommend this Hotel. In fact we are booking a further stay with our Best man and his wife as they enjoyed it so much
