Being a stranger to Morpeth (and Northumberland) and to the world of B&Bs, I had little idea as to what to expect. But the reviews on Trip Advisor seemed pretty good and the fee was not going to break the bank so I booked! I selected the twin single with private bathroom (as opposed to selecting same with the ensuite). What a bounus. Although we had to go down a short corridor, the bathroom at our exclusive disposal was spacious and had everything you could want.
After a night, I moaned about the bed and Steve (mein host) put his thinking cap on and my bed ended up being better than my one at home. It was wonderful!
Breakfast! Being a B&B, I expected maybe the opportunity of a full English breakfast plus the usual offerings of a continental breakfast. Hah! How wrong I was. Each night I was able to choose what I would like cooked and each morning, mein hostess (Julie) delivered her perfect interpretation of my request. This was in addition to a huge selection of fresh fruit (although I hate to think where she was able to source such delicacies) and numerous styles of cereals.
Being a laptop addict, and not having a desk or comfortable chair in my room, I was able to make use of the dining room with the free wifi every evening. (After returning from the local pub or delicious local restaurants of which there are many, of course). In other words, the only grizzle would be that there is no separate lounge available for such activities. But given the close prozimity to all in Morpeth plus the freedom of the dining room ad all the other bonuses, who cared? Not me.
It (Castle View B&B) is just around the corner from the bus station (bus depot in my country) and Post Office. Because I was there to spend daily time at the Woodhorn Archives out at Ashington, this bus station was essential that it be close to accommodation. (The bus, Ashington and travel to Woodhorn will be another topic on which I shall write!!!)
I thoroughly recommend Steve, Julie and their accommodation to anyone looking for a Morpeth B&B. In fact whilst visiting, I spoke (at breakfast) to others who stay there time after time. What better recommendation could you want?
