“Small, but free, so not so bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

Everything you wanted to know about bagpipes, but were afraid to ask! I have to admit, this wasn't a museum we were specifically visiting, but it was in the same building with the tourist information centre, so we popped in. It was fairly interesting, but ultimately is just some display boards and a few ancient bagpipes.

“Great Little Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

The museum is very interesting as it displays both the history of piping and the subtle differences between pipes of different countries and regions with lots of pipes on display. Upon entering the museum we were given a walkman and earphones to listen to piping during our visit which certainly works well with the atmosphere. The museum is made up of two large rooms on the first floor of the chantry above the tourist information centre in the centre of town. Its free of charge aswell which makes it fantastic value and i would say that the museum can be viewed comfortably within 45 minutes.

Well, i came here and i was told this place blows!! I saw loads of various bag pipes!! Learn't a lot! Its only a small place, buts it is very airy. I felt very deflated when i came out.

“Bagpipe Museum”

Thought I'd pop my head in since I was in the tourist Info Centre. Not particulary exciting but then again I think bagpipes are best heard rather than just looked at!

“Fascinating.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

I learnt a lot about bagpiping from various cultures. Some interesting stuff about the Northumbrian revival of piping with the bellow pipes and a great collection of instruments, some very beautiful indeed.
