“Small bistro - great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Firstly the negatives. We had to wait for our reserved table and because it is a small restaurant the waiting area is the area that the waiting staff have to move through to reach the tables. The service was a bit slow, but the 2 waitresses were working hard on a busy Saturday night and they were very pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu..

Everything else about our visit was terrific. The steaks are sourced from a local butcher known for the quality of their high-welfare, locally reared and on the plate they were perfectly cooked according to what we asked for and as good as any I've ever had. Starters and puds also to a high standard.

This is a simple and does nice food. Prices are reasonable and drink is BYO, although they are acquiring a licence next month they a still allowing BYO up to half a bottle per person, After that you could buy their wine, or maybe pay a corkage.

“More effort needed.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

This place really needs a good clean and redecoration. The windows are dirty, dead flies on the windowsill, and dirty paintwork everywhere are your welcome here. Pleasant staff, but slow service, however our soup and sandwich were nice. I have been here a few times and they always play the same really dreadful music, and it all adds to the impression that they are not really trying. I have had evening meals here and have never been impressed. Burned fishcakes, pizza drowned in chilli. Doubt that I will return.

“Friendly local bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013 via mobile

We ate here on a September Monday evening, and there was only one table for two free. In a town with several other decent eateries, this must say something! Unfortunately the service was rather slow. We had nothing to eat for almost 45 minutes. The (only) waitress said that they had been 'let down' and only had one person in the kitchen. If that's the case, them s/he did wonders, producing food for all 20+ covers! And the food was excellent. The scallops were nicely seasoned with only a hint of chilli, the smoked salmon was perfect, the tagliatelle was good enough to be home-made (the waitress said it wasn't) and the local steak, although far too big, was perfectly cooked, with an accompaniment of first-class chips. No room for dessert!
And the bonus is that it's BYO so very reasonable.

“Lovely ambience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013 via mobile

Everything you've read that's good about Pepper Pot is true. From the staff to the food everything was spot on. Lovely friendly candlelit atmosphere. Highly recommended. Last sitting 8pm weekdays and 8.30pm at weekends.

“Excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Heard about this place from friends so we went for lunch, great menu and very busy. We opted for the light lunch menu which we had Soup and a sandwich both of which were superb , soup(minestrone) piping hot and a steak sandwich on Italian bread for only £ 5.25p . Must add about the staff all seem very happy and smiling including the chef who asked if all is well. At nightime you can bring your own drink and again the menu looks excellent looking forward to returning ASAP!!!!
