Pele Cottage is an almost perfect bed and breakfast and the only reason they haven't got five stars is because their rooms are not quite large enough to fit the criteria. Jane and Bill, the hosts are lovely people who will make you feel welcome wthout smothering you, will join you for a chat in the gazebo as you look over the spectacular Northumberland landscape, and will offer invaluable tourist advice. Once you have eaten their breakfasts you won't need to eat again for the rest of the day. The bedrooms, bathroom and lounge form a mini-apartment which is rented out as a unit. The bathroom is fantastic and comes fully stocked with Molton Brown bath products, candles and fluffy white bathrobes; the lounge has a TV and comes equipped with an electric piano that you are welcome to play. Jane will ply you with home-baked cakes every afternoon. Pele Cottage is a remote retreat in the middle of often-overlooked but stunning scenery. We will be going back!

It's hard to put into words just how much we enjoyed our stay at Pele Cottage!
From the moment we arrived, Jane and Bill were extremely welcoming and friendly. Their home is beautiful, set in a village that feels like it's a million miles away from anywhere yet is in a fantastic location for visiting all of Northumberland's treasures.
We didn't have any particular plans for what we wanted to do during our visit, and our hosts' local knowledge was a great help in making the most out of our time.
The breakfasts were delicious, with my fiance plumping (appropriate word!) for the full English on two days out of three, which featured eggs from the hens in the back garden and deliciously meaty sausages. This was just one of the options on offer, in addition to cereal, yoghurts, fresh fruit salad, and plenty of toast - a great start to a day out exploring.
Home-made cake was put out for us every day in the guests' sitting room (which we had all to ourselves as the two bedrooms are only let out simultaneously if the occupants have come as a group), and the bathroom had a lovely deep bath and a first-class shower. The sitting room also had a huge selection of books, magazines, a stereo, television and VCR.
There was plenty of room to put away our clothes in our room, and getting into the extremely comfy bed at night was a real joy! Our bed was turned down for us in the evening, and new bottles of water put out for us every day.
Everything about the accommodation was just right, from the basics through to the fine details, and we felt truly looked after for the whole of our stay.
Bill and Jane were great hosts and we can thoroughly recommend a stay at Pele Cottage to anyone.

This place was well beyond our expectations of a B&B and in fact was better than some top hotels I have stayed in. Totally agree with the other reviews which are absoulutely accurate.

The setting is beautiful, quiet little village and absolutely stunning scenery. The cottage itself is imaculate, everything was clean, fresh and tidy whilst providing a warm and family feeling to it.

We stayed with our friends and so we occupied the whole upper floor which has two beautiful bedroom and a fantastic little sitting room which was ideal for us to sit and chat with a cup of tea and homemade cake which awaited us on arrival.

Everything was of the highest quality from the Molton Brown toilettries in the bathroom to the memory foam beds, real luxury that you just wouldn't expect from a B&B.

The breakfast room was spacious and the breakfast was lavish, the fresh fruit was a particularly nice touch.

Overall, it was a wonderful place to stay, no expense has been spared to make this a place you would want to stay in again and to tell all your friends about, a real gem of a place!

For us the perfect B & B. Jane and Bill Cotton are friendly and hospitable hosts, who not only anticipated our every need but also provided a five star service beyond our expectations.

Part of their secret is in all the extra touches: fresh flowers in the bedroom, the turn down service that welcomed us back to our room with the lamps lit, the White Company bathrobes and towels, the delicious homemade cakes, sometimes so fresh that they were still warm, to accompany the several different kinds of tea that we could brew in our small sitting room.

As well as a superb full English breakfast, our breakfast menu offered alternative hot dishes, with eggs from their own hens, fresh seasonal fruit, luxury muesli, etc. There is no doubt that the eggs are free range because we saw them following their owner around the garden. Jane is an excellent cook and everything was freshly cooked to perfection to our order.

Jane and Bill are well informed about their area. When we planned a trip to Holy Island, they quickly provided details of the tides and a weather forecast for the next couple of days, so our trip went very smoothly.

Despite booking only one of the bedrooms, we still got the whole first floor of the cottage and its large airy bathroom, with excellent shower and separate tub, because the rooms are let only to the same family or group.

We had not heard of the village of Wingates. Tucked away at the end of a "no through road" in the beautiful Northumbrian countryside between Rothbury and Longhorsley, it is blissfully quiet and undisturbed, yet only a few miles from the A697 and the A1. Break your journey here and you may never bother to go any further.

As a hardened traveller, it is not often that I can sing the praises of accommodation in the UK or Europe. It fact I have only done it once in the last three years on your site.
So it must be something rather surprising or pleasing to receive a report from me. Pele Cottage (pronounced peel as in church bells, and nothing to do with the footballer) is one of those hidden gems that you stumble across all too infrequently.
Run by Jane and Bill Cotton, this beautiful B&B was an unexpected find in Nothumberland. Situated in the village of Wingates, the cottage has views of the Cheviots from the back of the property you would kill for. It will make a perfect location if you aim to explore the area.
Rooms were close to perfect and beautifully equipped. Bathroom was spendid, and breakfast was one of the best I've eaten - with eggs from their own hens!
Wonderful couple, worth a visit just to meet them.
Highly recommended
