“Disappointing spa day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2012

Booked a spa day after xmas to treat my sister. Firstly the spa lounge was more like a doctors waiting room (with nice music) than it was a relaxing spa lounge. After 15 mins filling out forms we were shown to the changing room which was very small and in dire need of updating. The showers were dirty and the water didn't run away very quickly, by the end of my shower I was wading in the water that hadnt drained away, urgh. Then to top it off, a male member of staff walks in without so much as a knock thinking the changing room was empty! (good job we were dressed!) The gym was small, but fit for its purpose, as we went for the relaxation not the gym. The pool area, jacuzzi, steam and sauna were all ok, but not as luxurious as you'd expect in a 4* hotel, think a bit of an update is required. After relaxing for a while we went back to the "doctors waiting reception" to wait for our treatments. Mine was on time but my sister sat for 15 mins waiting for hers! We were both booked for 30 min treatments, however only received about 20 mins. not impressed! Then we went for dinner in the Dobson restaurant. totally different. this is more like what we had expected. Beautiful food and great service. We visited the toilets downstairs on the way out, and we both commented that if the spa had been as nice as the toilets it would have been so much better! Would go back for a meal (although a bit pricy), but certainly not for a spa day.

This was our second visit to Linden Hall, we met up with friends for a catch up. Lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff. We had afternoon tea followed later by an evening meal in the Linden Tree Pub, which everyone enjoyed, again the staff in the Linden Tree Pub were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was smaller than last time, but very comfortable and clean. You can go for a stroll around the grounds which are very pretty and the swimming pool and spa area are also really good. Would definately recommend this and will certainly be returning in the future,

Just wanted to write a quick review to say how much I enjoyed my recent stay and meal at Linden Hall. The hotel itself is fine but not as good as nearby Matfen Hall and the gym is very small. That is only a small negative as the service from Vikram and the meal in the Dobson restaurant was unbelievable. This was enjoyed even more since I was on a £20 meal deal.

Last week I stayed at the Crutherland House in Glasgow which is part of the same chain and it was not a patch on this place.

Our party of six booked in for two nights over the new year weekend.
Service was fantastic, the staff here really know their jobs and looked after us very well.
We requested a change from a room which had little storage space and only one easy chair and were moved immediately to one with more space. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in!
The Gala Dinner on New Year's Eve was excellent and the food delicious and well presented, although the queue for a glass of champagne was ridiculously long and could have been managed better. Late arrivals for evening meal on New Years Day had a knock on effect for the rest of the diners which meant an hour and 15 mins wait for food and some unhappy customers. In spite of this we enjoyed our stay and were delighted with the standard of the food and the surroundings of the hotel. Well done Linden Hall your customer service is excellent.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a speciality room if you can which overlook the Golf course, we can't comment on the...

We are family of 5 and stayed 2 nights between Xmas and New Year. Hotel is a beautiful old building, kept in good repair. We had booked all to squeeze into 1 room, but since space was available staff had kindly arranged for 2 inter-connecting rooms. Hotel was lovely and warm and nice mix of new and old. Swimming pool very clean and not too crowded when we were there. Service of all staff throughout our stay was exemplary, from front of house through the restaurant and also the pub. The chain should be proud of the team at Linden Hall, who made our stay so enjoyable.

We stayed at the Linden Hall in November 2011 for a couple of nights. Certainly the entrance is impressive, you wonder if you'll ever get down the drive! The hotel building is lovely, a real country house hotel. The entrance hall had a log fire burning with sofas surrounding and a lovely staircase.

We had a feature room which was just at the top of said staircase, not much of a view, but the room was quirky with a big ensuite. We had booked dinner, bed and breakfast, so booked dinner in the Dobson Restaurant for the first night looking forward to an amazing dinner. We arrived and our table wasn't ready, so had to wait in the bar. We thought we'd have a drink, but there was no one behind the bar. Service in the bar seemed to be the bane of our stay, there was never any staff there...

Finally we were called to our table. So much for the friendly atmostphere (as on their website). We walked in and everyone staired at us, there was silence. No one was talking, it was dead and we felt decidedly young! The food (once it came) was good, but the service was *so* slow. I'd lost interest by the time the food came.

My fiance had booked to go round the golf course. I was allowed to walk around with him for the front nine. The golf course is excellent, with some interesting and challenging holes. While he was playing the back nine, I had a lesson with the pro, who was very good and extremely patient with me, considering how badly I play!

I had to visit the spa. I had a swim, but unfortunately the pool was quite full and it wasn't that much fun, so you may need to pick your swimming times. It is however a good sized pool. I did however had a full body massage which was lovely and just what I needed.

We ate the second night in the Linden Tree pub. This was much better. The food is still excellent, although is pub type food, as you would expect. The service and waiting staff were very helpful and efficient and we really enjoyed our meal there.

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay. The room was lovely and the Linden Tree pub has a great atmosphere and is to be recommended. Just beware of the Dobson Restaurant, yes the food is excellent, but the service and atmosphere is awful. The bar staff were generally non-existent, we discovered they often had to deliver room service...

Room Tip: Feature rooms are in the main building and are a lot nicer than the standard rooms.

We stayed at Linden Hall for two nights on the 31st December 2011. We had a warm welcome from the receptionist who promptly checked us in and young Alex who had a lovely smile offered to help us to our rooms. We had booked two double rooms and the Linden Suite which comprised of a double ensuite room and a seperate sitting room / ensuite bedroom for our daughter. All the rooms were very clean and comfortable with complimentory tea/coffee making facilities and water. The New Years Eve Black Tie Ball was amazing the room and tables were decorated beautifully and each of the 6 courses at dinner were piping hot, well presented and tasted deicous! The entertainment was also excellent. We really couldn't fault anything the service and food at both breakfast and dinner were outstanding with a special mention to William and Vikram who attended to our every need.
This wasn't our first stay at Linden Hall and certainly won't be our last. A big thank you to Gemma who coordinated our booking which was done very efficently as we had to change our origional booking from another hotel.

Room Tip: The Executive and feature rooms are bigger and more spacious with lovley views of the grounds and go...
