“Warm Welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Four of us popped into here while on a visit to the island. We were greeted by a man who we think may well have been the owner. Very polite & courteous he was & also helpful. We were going to have a meal but these seemed a bit pricey but this seems to be the norm for the island. This might have been the reason why a few people came in with young children then went back out again. However, it`s a nice pub with a good pint of Fosters & would go back again in the future.

We had lunch at the Ship Inn on an extremely cold day in the Easter holidays and were made very welcome by the friendly staff. The food was simple but good, the staff & service superb. Many thanks. Would recommend.

Just had a three night stay at the Ship Inn on the Holy Island. Absolutely fabulous. The bed in room 2 has to be one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The food was great and we had our own table throughout our stay. No need to go anywhere else to eat in the evening as the best food on the Island is at the Ship Inn. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Parking right outside the Inn. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Room 2 has a very very comfortable bed.

Stayed for one night, room was fine but dinner in the cold lounge had to be rushed. Food generally overpriced. Good selection of beers but alas the bar was deserted during my visit the bar at the other hostelry seemed to have the drinkers.

On the night in question this person sat in the public bar area (not in the lounge) with central heating and the wood burner operating. We acknowledge that the weather was exceptionally cold outside but the building was adequately heated to a comfortable level during the time this reviewer spent in our establishment. Also on no occasion was the person rushed in fact we recall being most helpful in explaining in detail the islands "points of interest" We also make the comment that we get on well as a local community and like all businesses we have busy periods and quiet periods which is the nature of the island and we are not "in the game" of playing one establishment off against another!

My brother, sister and myself all stayed at the Ship Inn for one night last week and found the friendly welcome, the recently refurbished rooms and the quality food all to a high standard. I would fully recommend staying at the Ship Inn and intend to book there again when returning to the Island.
My brother and I shared the twin room, recently refurbished to a high standard and extremely comfortable. My sister had the large double room which is incredibly well presented and roomy.
The couple running the Ship Inn are very friendly and knowledgable about Holy Island, and had some good stories about its history and events that go on there.
We had our evening meals at the Ship Inn and a cooked breakfast there in the morning. The food was delicious and, fortunately for me and my brother who have large appetites, generously portioned!
Fully recommend the Ship Inn, to eat, stay or just for some drinks and a laugh.

Room Tip: Both the rooms we stayed in were nice, 2 and 3.

In reading your review it was most pleasing to hear that we were able to bring some warmth to you all and make your stay a comfortable one in what was obviously a difficult time as the prupose of your stay was to pay respects to your late Father. We hope we will be able to welcome you back in happier circumstances.

A wonderful experience all round for the three night stay. Greeted on arrival with a warm and welcoming smile from the joint owner Janice. The room we stayed in was of an extremely high standard and was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We were staying on a bed and breakfast basis with friends, but we all had dinner in The Ship every night as the food was delicious with a good selection to choose from. The bar staff (Steve) , and owners Janice and Andrew, were amazing! Friendly, warm and welcoming and we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend my husband's first visit to the island. We will definitely return!!

I have rated the Ship Inn property as very good, but please be minful that this in is the context of Holy Island buildings, properties and expectations.
Parking at the Ship is a bit of a gamble as it is just in the 'main' street. The place itself has lots of character, staff are very friendly (Steve is a star) and they greet you with a very warm welcome.
The lunch time menu is minimal, but the food quality is excellent, the crab is delicious. There are a couple of real ales on, Kingdom and Holy Island, both are excellent as well as wine and ciders.
The evening menu has a wider choice and equally as good in terms of quality.
The bar closes between 3pm and 6pm during winter months, which was a bit of a suprise, but others are open.
The room was basic, electric shower etc, but very comfortable, quiet and relaxing.
The scenery on Holy Island is terrific, having a walk around the place and reading the history is great.
It was a real pleasurable stay, will definately go back to Holy Island, would maybe try another hotel, more out of curiosity, but would definately recommend the Ship.

Room Tip: No bad rooms given our room and comments from others in the bar..
