Just returned from a weekend at Marshall Meadows after checking out a day early. Stay was a disaster from start to finish. Our room was cold as the radiators needed bleeding. Reception were unable to help with this. The room itself was tired and worn and the bed squeaked loudly which didn't really set the scene for a romantic weekend away. The shower was luke warm. Restaurant was nicely positioned but our meal was horrible. Bread tasted like it had been made by a five year old...tough and chewy. Our steak had hard bits on it as if it had been left in the sun too long. Breakfast was just as bad. My bacon and sausage was raw and I suspect cooked in the microwave. When we enquired if we could check out a day early the receptionist did not ask why. When we checked out we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay. When we asked for the managers name we were not asked if there was anything wrong. When we wrote to the manager the following week, we received no reply. In our opinion, with the exception of the bar and restaurant staff who were welcoming, no one in the hotel seemed to give a hoot about guest care. This is a shame as with a bit of money spent on it , and a new chef, the hotel could be really nice and somewhere near being worth the 200 odd quid we ended up spending on our single night's dinner bed and breakfast. Thanks to The Manor House on Holy Island for saving our weekend at short notice.
