“Lovely B&B, close to station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

I stayed in this B&B for a few nights last September and chose it as I was travelling from London on the train. It's very close to the rail station and is just a short walk to the pubs and shops in town. There's also a lovely walk along the river from the B&B in to town or along the old walls. The B&B was very comfortable, with a retro feel. Margaret, the host, was very friendly and helpful with tips on places to go and where to eat etc. Breakfast was good and it was nice to sit at a large table for breakfast with other guests and exchange ideas on places to visit.

This is a lovely, quiet B&B with excellent views over Berwick and in particular the river Tweed and the stunning railway bridge. Perfectly located to walk in to the Town centre with all its attractions and literally a minutes walk from the railway station.
We stayed 5 nights during February 2014.
The room we had was large and comfortable, had a dual aspect and 2 comfortable armchairs in which to sit and just look out over the town/river. It had high ceilings and wall to wall pictures and really felt quite homely.
The breakfasts were cooked to order and ready for you in the breakfast room at a pre-arranged time. All locally sourced produce and Margaret had baked the bread and made the marmalade and other preserves on offer, nothing was rushed at all and the whole experience was relaxing.
Evening meals were not a problem as the centre of Berwick was so close to walk to.
The atmosphere in the B&B was extremely friendly and the hosts couldn't do enough for us during our stay.
This is definitely the place to stay if you are visiting Berwick

We stayed for two nights. The welcome we received was very warm and the owners are very friendly and helpful. We had lots of tips and advice about the local area that helped us to enjoy our stay. Our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, and the views from the B&B are lovely. Thank you very much.

The breakfast was excellent and the view from the room was beautiful. However, we would very much have liked an indication of the overtly Catholic nature of this B&B before we booked. As a gay couple, we felt very uncomfortable with the large statue of Mary and the crusifixes around every corner. I understand that this is may not be a problem for most people, but it was a major issue for us.

I'm saddened you felt uncomfortable in my home simply because I'm a Christian. To avoid future prejudice, I will as you suggest, make it clear on our website that this is a Christian houshold.

ROOM

We were in the standard double - from the look of the website, this is the smallest room in the B&B, but it's a very good size. Easily big enough for the two of us.

View over the drive way so doesn't make the most of the fabulous location but guessing this is partly why the room is cheaper than some of the others!

En suite decent size, included a bath with shower over - amazing huge shower head. Water did run cold on my first morning, but minor detail.

Lots of teas (incl. herbal) in the room, TV had all freeview channels and wifi did work in the room on my laptop though not strong enough for phones to pick up. Again, minor detail.

Couldn't fault the cleanliness - bathroom sparkling! And the bed was amazing - very comfortable. Peaceful location combined with this made for a great night's sleep both night.

BREAKFAST

Pre-ordered by way of a little slip the night before. The usual all available. Very good quality - amazing bacon particularly. Home made bread for toast which was delicious and proper coffee in your own pot.

Gorgeous breakfast room, with classical music from the kitchen made it a lovely setting too.

LOCATION

Absolutely perfect - gorgeous view from the drive and the breakfast room of the railway bridge and river, and right next to the train station. 5 minute walk into town and everything else you'd want within walking distance.

OTHER

There is a small cross in the room, pictures of the pope in the hallway etc. - not something that bothers us at all, but if it does you probably not somewhere you'd be happy...

Lovely hospitality, very welcoming. We were able to leave luggage in the living room before we caught our train so didn't have to traipse it around - very much appreciated!
