The Old Vicarage was our first stop while walking St Oswald's Way recently, and it made a lovely start to our trip. We were given a warm welcome, and were very grateful to find that our bags had been put in our room before we arrived. The house is charming, and we had a very pretty twin room overlooking the churchyard, which is much more appealing than it sounds. The room had a separate bathroom just for our use with a wonderful deep old-fashioned bath - a real treat after a long walk! There's no shower in the bath, but there's a jug for rinsing your hair if needed, and it was so nice to have the extra space, and a bathroom with a window instead of being squeezed into a cupboard as in many B&Bs.
Breakfast was delicious too, and had a much more interesting range of dishes than usual: my friend had a wonderful kedgeree, and I had a 'pot' made with tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese and eggs, both of which were really very good.
Very highly recommended.
