Great walk along the coast to the castle. A wild atmosphere all of its own - a real feel of history.

A lovely walk to Dunstanburgh Castle along the clifftops, through the grazing cattle and wandered in the rockpools

“Beautiful walk along the coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

While on a visit to Northumberland, myself and my boyfriend walked from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle. Although the weather was freezing, the walk was lovely and the views of the castle and the sea made it worth while. Well worth a visit if you're in the area. There is a car park just outside Craster and parking is inexpensive.

“Dunstanburgh Castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We visited Dunstanburgh on a freezing cold March day. You have to park your car in Craster (you can not get it up to the castle) and walk. Craster is famous for its smokery and a shop sells a selection of smoked fish - with kippers being its speciality. You then set off on the castle walk. Now don't get me wrong, Craster is a lovely little place and the cliff top walk of around a mile and a half would be fantastic with stunning views on a nice day, but what we got was waves crashing a yard or more over Craster harbour and sleet and rain coming at us horizontally as we walked across the cliff top. We were even ankle deep once or twice in a froth of sea-foam. But we were still pleased that we had made the effort. It is a lovely old castle (not much still standing) but still has a charm about it. I recommend that you go and see it, ideally on a nice day and with suitable footwear and be prepared for the walk.
