“An atmospheric ruin - - - will be great when it if finished!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

Just off the main route between Rothbury and Alnwick stands the gaunt and atmospheric remains of Edlingham castle. Bit of a misnomer really as it was, in its heyday, a fortified house. Good labelling and a picture reconstruction gives the mind an aid to visualising the complete structure. One wonders how one of the walls still stands as it leans at a crazy angle. Quite close is an ancient church also worth a visit

“A great little stop off on the way to Anwick”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

There was enough to see here to imagine what it could have been like in those days. On the way to Anwick from Rothbury it sits down on the left of the road like a forgotton relic. If you do a u turn and turn back to the little lane giving access you wont be dissapointed. If you do park up theres enough there to wet the apertite for the history of the area and get some historical theme to your trip. It s a ruin nothing more but somehow it seems to have the edge and get the mind thinking. Worth a stop on the way to anwick.

“Beautiful situation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Just take a drive from Alwnick to Rothbury and you can't miss this castle nestled in a lovely valley with views of the Cheviot from the road. A pretty ruin.

“Worth a quick stop”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

There is not a lot left of this castle to see but it is worth the diversion from the main road. Superb photo opportunity from the road if you can find somewhere to stop safely. An explanatory leaflet may be purchased from the small church nearby which gives the history of the property from its start as a Hall House through to the addition of a solar tower and finally to a fortified castle. There is no admission charge.
