“Not modern enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

Rather expensive and the cascade was so ugly. The guide to the poison garden was very interesting. The rose garden was also rather good

“Splendid Gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

These gardens are truly amazing. Water features abound! We had the 'double' ticket for the castle as well and thought we'd do the gardens first as they wouldn't take long....how wrong were we! The gardens are so good you could easily spend all day there. Plenty to do and see and lovely walks from one area to the other. The walled garden was beautiful. The tour round the poison garden was great - a few Harry Potter plants in there! Can't really say too much more about the gardens other than - Go and see for yourself!!!

“Alnwick in the rain - worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

We arrived on quite a rainy day which had its benefits with no queues. We enjoyed about 2-3 hours wondering around the various aspects of the garden and were blessed in the end with some sunshine. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not have time to visit the castle. We would visit again bringing our children.

“Well worth the trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

This is a fabulous day out - we combined it with a visit to the Castle and would suggest that you allow a whole day to visit the two. The weather was glorious which made the gardens look even more stunning. Would recommend taking the guided poison garden tour - very informative and led by a guide with a wicked sense of humour. The Serpent garden was also a highlight with a number of polished steel water features . The rose garden and ornamental garden were in full bloom and we spent a long time smelling all the different roses. There are lots of activities for children and on a busy July weekend it was great to see so many families out enjoying the sunshine. Only minor disappointment was the vintage tea room in the marquee - it looked very pretty and the staff were wonderful but the scones were dry, the jam was jelly and the 'clotted cream' most certainly was not - it was highly processed whipped cream. The cup of tea though was fab! We will definitely come to Alnwick Garden again.
