“Talbot is "the place" to stay in Oundle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

We previously had a pleasant stay at the Talbot in 2001, and since then it has undergone a massive renovation which has transformed it into a much better hotel and dining experience. A main improvement was in the level of service, which is now excellent across the board. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the hotel in general has been modernized while still retaining the charm of a several hundred year old English inn. Dinner in the main dining room was elegant with excellent service, albeit a bit pricey. Had difficulty booking a room during the weekend, perhaps due to parents visiting the Oundle School. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Chose the Talbot merely for its location, but what a find. The suite was great, clean, roomy and well appointed. What to say about the food - beautifully prepared, hot, wonderfully inventive but not tiny and flamboyant The size of the portions even beat me, a lady with a very hearty appetite. But a special mention must go to Andrew the restaurant manager with his offbeat humour when we first arrived, his wonderful attention to every little detail and how he made you feel like you were very special, we look forward to coming again soon ; a last mention to the barman matt, a very
nice young man.

Room Tip: I would recommend the suite very luxurious.

The hotel has really improved its customer care & service. Nothing is too much trouble and for parents with children at any nearby school it offers a perfect base away from home with comfortable peaceful rooms set around a charming courtyard. It's lucky to have a separate section either side of courtyard for the bar & restaurant. The courtyard is ideal for breakfast/coffee/lunch or tea on a sunny day as it's very sheltered and a sun trap. A super place to pass an hour with newspapers & cappuccinos plus their delicious range of home made cakes & pastries. The front desk is very attentive and the head waiter is on top of his game. It has a friendly & charming atmosphere which is "timeless". You're in the heart of a wonderful market town yet you wouldn't know it. Nearby villages are quite beautiful. It's great value for money.

Room Tip: They're all very agreeable & comfortable. Some closer to reception than others & if you...

Food good, breakfast wonderful..love the mural in the restaurant - worth seeing. Hope someone can upload it.
Perhaps a reason to visit again?

Pot luck booking turned up a real find. Good sized room, Delicious food and service, both evening and breakfast and all at a very reasonable price. Certainly one to go back to.The staff were very helpful and attentive without being overthe top.
