“A great eatery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

If you want really good food at a reasonable price with nice friendly staff - then try the George.

Try the 'posh' sausages and mash - I have, many times.

Good steaks as well - gamon is good as well

Bit upmarket than your usual pub grub.

Good range of food, well served and supported by friendly staff and decently kept Real Ales. Price is at the upper end of acceptable range, location fine with plenty of parking. Definitely one I will revisit.

Saw this pub on the way to Rugby so thought we'd pop in for lunch. The staff were very friendly and polite and the food was fantastic. I visit Daventry for the weekends regularly to play in pro pool events so will be coming here for food now.

We have eaten there on several occasions and have always gone away feeling that we must return soon. As a pub, it has a good selection of real ales and some unusual draught ciders; the George is worth seeking out just for that reason. There are two bar areas and a separate dining room. There is a pleasant garden to the rear. The staff are welcoming, friendly and attentive. The last time we sat in the lounge bar and had the lunch time special, salmon and cod fish cakes and the 8 oz rump steak and chips for mains. The fish cakes were full of fish and delicious and the accompanying home-made coleslaw very good indeed. The steak was beautifully cooked (rare) and chips was just how they should have been, crisp outside with fluffy interiors. We have also enjoyed in the past the deep fried brie wedges and black pudding and apple chutney as starters. The mixed grill is also very good as are the Gloucester Old Spot chop and the Sunday lunch. The menus are very good value, particularly the lunch time ones.

Have been here twice in the past month and some time ago- I have varied starters and dessert but despite there being a great selection of main courses, I cannot get enough of the mixed grill!!!
Superb quality meat, wonderfully cooked, beautifully served. Starters and dessert likewise.
Nice selection of real ales, attentive unpretentious service. Nice proper pub with a separate restaurant so the best of both worlds depending on what sort of experience you would like
Highly recommended!!

Myself and my family went to The George to experience the burger night on thursdays which I had heard good things about. I was not let down, the food was superb! I had a beef burger with cheese and coleslaw (the coleslaw was an extra I asked for, for the burger) and it was just lovely. The meat was very good quality and tasty! The chips and salad that came with the burger were also very good! I would recommend this establishment to anyone who enjoys good quality food with friendly service!

Room Tip: We did not stay overnight, just went there for dinner!

I love the George, it has everything you want in an English pub. Good food, good beer and pleasant surroundings to enjoy them, wash that down with an ever smiling landlady/hostess [Maggie] add a soupcon of excellent service from her staff and you've got a winning combination.
My friends and I often go to the George for Sunday roast. The meat is sourced from local farmers and the quality is very good indeed. [Try the Gloucester Old Spot pork, mmmm, wonderful crackling!]
The restaurant is large, comfortable and airy. The tables are large and the seating comfortable.
Highly recommended.
