“Tea and cakes with friends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

It was very busy for a Wednesday early afternoon , perhaps this was because it was the school holidays. It was my first visit to the tea roons, although I had often driven by. There was a huge selection of sandwiches, panini and toasties, as well as cakes, scones and pastries. As we all wanted to pay individually we ordered separately , but the orders all went in together so we were served at the same time, a nice touch. I chose a coronation chicken sandwich, it was a little bit bland, but lots of salad and fresh bread and made to order. It came with a small portion of coleslaw. My friends also had various types sandwiches which were all declared delicious. After the sandwich, the big decision was what type of cake to have, after much deliberation I decided on the lemon pavlova , it was a good choice, creamy and light with the addition of mini eggs on the side. The very hot tea came in a pot, enough for three cups each. I noticed that you could reserve tables, a good idea if you didn't want to share with anyone. A good place to meet friends or family.

“Home cooked Sunday lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

First class Sunday lunch with a freshly cooked, very home made taste, good portions with the option of a smaller size portion for smaller appetites.

The service can be a bit amateur at times - don't expect airs and graces. The staff are generally very helpful though and usually try hard.

Occasionally, other guests allow their children to behave in a feral way which can be noisy due to the wooden floors.

We return regularly so that says it all - we like it a lot and put up with the minor issues mentioned.

This review is only for the Sunday lunch. I know the food on offer is quite different at other times and I've not been for years on other days.

“Home cooking at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Excellent food and service in pleasing surroundings. If you looking for somewhere for a nice cup of tea or coffee and cakes that will tempt anyone away from their diets for the day then look no further. This cosy place has the lot. Breakfast, lunch or tea you will not be disappointed can highly recommend this eating establishment. Call in for a bite if you are travelling down the A14 take Junction 7 off and its a turning off this roundabout.

“Warm and Quaint”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Have been going here for a few years, love the sunday lunches, fabulous country views and legendary staff. Lots of other interesting things to look at too such as garden sheds, playhouses and other landscaping stuff. Great place to bring friends and family, or just quietly sit and read a book outside while soaking up the views with a good cup of tea and yummy cake.

“Lovely setting, shame about food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

I had lunch a short while ago and after a very expensive and dissapointing meal I did write to the owners to complain. The Pork Roll was just a mix of processed meat bits mixed with paxo. It was truly awful. More dissapointing was the fact that the owners have never responded to my very reasonable letter. A great shame as the setting is stunning, but if the owners have a dont care less attitude towards their diners I will go elsewhere, there are plenty of others places that I can enjoy a decent lunch.
