“Tired but cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

Great staff but the rest was wanting. Tired inside and out and the bathrom was not a pretty sight with black mold on the grouting. It was a one night stay and i slept like a log on a comfy bed but it was very low to the ground and a pain to get out off. You get what you pay for i know but really, it would be nice to have 2 hand towels and not one between us.

Clean and comfortable rooms - nothing very spectatacular but the cost was very reasonable and the accommodation was adequate for our needs (mainly a good nights sleep) . Staff were friendly and there is ample car parking with no additional charges. Good location for explorers!!

Rather than travel the 170+ mls in one go to our destination, my partner suggested we stay over on the way up so managed to get a good deal at a travelodge hotel just before scotch corner £42...thanks to sat nav we gound it ok altho it is hidden slightly, no advance warning of your immnent approach of the place - all i can suggest is that it is half a mile before scotch corner, just past a road to the left off the A1 signposted Skeeby,

we arrived sooner than we'd envisaged thanks to light traffic, and were soon booked in. The chap behind the counter was great - chap called paul who was cheerful and smiling - always a good sign! The room we had looked back over the hills and not facing the road - noise was non existant. the room was clean bright and well prepared...shower controls banjaxed my partner tho' good old paul to the rescue!

the reason for our journey was to visit Gretna green. i d passed thru it several times as a calling in point on many coach tours to scotland i'd done in my past - however my partner had not been to scotland for years, so as it's fairly easy and quick to get to without issues, we found ourselves en route there.

As reviewers to this hotel have already mentioned, guests at the hotel qualify for a 20% discount on food and drinks purchased at the little chef next door - you do not get discount if you take it back to hotel - we took a btl wine back and didn't get the 20%....the food welcome etc were fine...good value before the 20% so we both ate well for considerably less..

following morning after a decent kip, we returned bk to the little chef for a breakfast - again food fine and there's that lovely 20% as well

we set off after checking out and arrived at our destination refreshed and looking forward to seeing what gretna had to offer - we took the tour of the blacksmiths shop which was impressive - they carry out over 1000 weddings each year there...and you can have your pic taken over the infamous anvil as well [we did!]

there are severa shops etc at the location which allow you to buy assorted exotic foods, whiskies etc and if you feel inspired to do so, take home a kilt!

the blacksmiths shop is a long established lunch stop for many coach tour operators en route to scotland - and despite that, it never felt cramped or rushed....

excellent loo's too and the chance to take home a few souveniers - such as the scottish edition of your newspaper!

on our return we stopped for lunch at a fave palce of mine - The Tan hill inn high upon the moors in the ,iddle of nowhere, some 1732' above sea level - an amazing place and location whatever the weather!!!!

we enjoyed the night at this travelodge and wouldn't hesitate to return or use another hotel of this chain - great value and a welcome assured!!!!

Room Tip: Remember!!! its' half a mile before Scotch Corner, northbound on the A1

Friendly staff and a comfortable room. The expected traffic noise from the busy A1 did not intrude. We appreciated the discount at the adjoining Little Chef restaurant. We would use this Travelodge again especially if the discounted price continues..

We stayed at the Travelodge Scotch Corner for two nights during a weekend away in this area of England. We had stayed in Travelodges before, and have been quite suprised by the difference in them. This one was about average.
It is in a layby off the A1 with a quite rough looking Little Chef. This was quite a dissapointment as it meant we had to drive somewhere to eat every night. The room was as expected and the staff were friendly (if not a little bit mad!!). It was bucketing down with rain when we arrived and the poor receptionist was stacking sandbags at the front door to stop the rain flooding the foyer - it did leave a bit of a musty smell in the reception area, but that wasn't their fault.
In hindsight it would have been better to book the Travelodge on the Southbound carriageway as this had a service station attached with lots of amenities.

We stayed in a family room, and found it clean and functional. Even though it was late in the evening when we arrived, staff were friendly and helpful. Not quite as roomy or as with as comfy a bed as Premier Inn, but much cheaper, and well located beside A1. Not noisy despite location, and good free car parking. (Parking arrangements at the Southbound Scotch Corner Travelodge are a little more complex) Staff gave advice on where to eat in nearby Richmond and check in/ exit were quick. Would recommend this for an overnight stopover, easily accessed for those travelling south ,too.

Room Tip: A room facing away from road may be quieter.

Having stayed in Travelodges before I knew what to expect - a basic but clean and adequate room. This was not the case here. The room was filthy, the carpet had not been hoovered, the sofa was covered in what appeared to be short white dog hairs which as our kids would be sleeping on it was not great. The toilet was coming away from its fixings and the only way to flush was to pump the handle, which I'm sure annoyed the people in the room next door. There were also pubic hairs on the seat when we arrived. There were only 4 pillows for a family room with 4 of us in it was not great. The main bed was uncomfortable, the walls were dirty and there was a continual musty smell. The only thing which didn't bother us was the road noise. Some of the staff were lovely, others were grumpy. For £60 I don't expect much - just somewhere clean to sleep - but this was appalling. If we had any other option we would have left but after a long drive we had no choice. I will never stay here again, and have now permanently been put of Travelodge.
