“brilliant stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

I would highly recommend Hooks House Farm if you are looking for somewhere in the Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby area. Before we even arrived we were given great service as we were camping with someone who has particular issues, the family running the site were brilliant at accomodating the extra needs.
With spectacular views across the bay the site is only a short walk (on a slight incline so take it in stages if walking is difficult) from Robin Hoods Bay and a short drive or bus trip into Whitby.
This week we have done some walking over the area and were really pleased to see that from all the other holiday cottages and campsites we saw along the way there was none that any of us would rather of been in for location. The bottom of the site is a bit of a walk to the facilities but we quite liked that but you can just pitch further up if you want to be a bit nearer as the site is on a slight slope the view is just as good wherever you go.
The welcome we received was warm and friendly and we found everyone at the campsite the same, a smile and wave every time you left and arrived is a little thing that can perk up a day.
The facilities were always clean and tidy and even though the campsite got pretty full noone in our party of 6 had to wait to use them.
For famililes here is a safe area for children to play and we saw and couple of games of cricket/frisbee etc being played in there. We had 2 teenagers to keep happy but it was easy as we were confident enough to let them explore the area alone as paths were clearly marked and everyone we met seemed happy to help if you looked a bit lost.
Plenty of local places to eat and have a drink and we were made to feel welcome in them all. Would strongly recommend findign the Falling Foss tea rooms if you fancy finding somewhere tucked away and slightly magical :-)
All in all a brilliant site, we will definately be visiting again and will be recommending it highly to anyone we can.

We've just returned from a long weekend here. I emailed a couple of weeks before we went to ask for availability and as expected they said they were busy but could I contact them nearer the date so a few days before I emailed with fingers crossed. I had a reply from them almost immediately, saying they would save me a pitch and would see me on Thursday. No deposit or payment up front, that's a first for us !!!! On arrival we were greeted with a warm friendly welcome and told we had a pitch saved for our trailer tent at the bottom of the site where it's almost flat (The site is slightly sloping as you can see from the photos). We drove to the bottom of the fiield to find the perfect view, nothing but scenery in front of us. A great start. Once pitched we checked the facilities, again spotless, they looked almost new, these were some of the best we've ever seen, and we're seasoned campers ! Free superb showers on a push switch so you have to press it to keep it going, but that's great cos you're not on a timer and you can soap up between pushes. Toilets likewise excellent. It's a walk from the bottom of the field to the facilities but if that's a problem camp higher up the field. There are two footpaths, one straight out of the gate at the bottom of the field that takes you down to a road where you turn left you get to main road into Robin Hoods Bay, it's much easier than going by the main road out of the farm gate. The second path is left out of the bottom gate which takes you across to another gate where you again join the road into RHB. Just along this road is the footpath sign which is the coastal path from RHB to Whitby, it's 6.5 miles, and not for the infirm as there are some drops and climbs where streams run into the sea, but spectacular views. As for entertainment at night, there are several pubs doing live music, The Flyingdales is an easy walk and has good food and bands on. Also the Grosvenor on the way into RHB has food and bands on Saturday nights and some stuff mid week. The nearest shop is the post office again on the main road, about half a mile from the site. All in all a great site, close enough to RHB to make the walk with relative ease, or get the bus !!! We'll be back !!

We've just returned home from a week at Hooks House - an annual delight for us. Friendly, clean, unfussy, fantastic facilities - kitchen, showers, clothes washing, personal washrooms - everything you need and all immaculate. Above all the care and helpfulness of the family owners creates a fantastic atmosphere. It has one the best views you can imagine from every pitch - over Robin Hoods Bay across to Ravenscar. The walking is excellent (bang on the Cleveland Way) and facilities in Bay village all you could wish for.

This campsite was easily the best out of the four we visited over the week we were away. The view was amazing and the facilities were clean and always available which made it ideal. It was only a 10 minute walk from the bay itself and had a very positive atmosphere around the site.

Came here for a short break Wednesday to Saturday. Owners helpful and very pleasant. Showers brilliant and clean, views superb. Will definitely come back and possibly hire the cottage or caravans with our family members.

Touring round the uk, we picked this campsite for a couple of nights. The views are incredible - I can easily say we had the best pitch I've ever camped in! The facilities were very clean and perfect for what we needed (I can imagine in the summer holidays there might be queues for the washing up facilities though, as there were only a few sinks. There was also only one plug in the ladies toilets - so prepare to leave hair straighteners in the suitcase. The staff were, however, SO friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend.
