“3rd visit - with inlaws”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

Just come back from a long weekend at Thorney Mire with the in-laws; we arrived on Father's Day and had an absolutely superb 2 night stay. As others have said, the welcome, all the little touches, the rooms, the food - all absolutely lovely. Jane's white chocolate panacotta with the milk chocolate spoon was HEAVENLY. We even got to see the red squirrels - cute little characters. As Jane and Simon knew, its been a very traumatic few months for us as a family so the visit was personally very important and I cannot thank Jane and Simon enough for helping us to build some truly lovely memories that will last for years to come.

Room Tip: My husband is mobility impaired so we always go for the garden room. Mum and Dad had Longfords whic...

Another visit to Thorney Mire Barn,we stayed in the Garden Room and were not disappointed,we were not only greeted by Simon & Jane but also Red Squirrels outside our window !
We had arrived in early evening so had ordered a evening meal, fantastic as usual with Goats Cheese and Onion Tart, followed by Lamb Shank with veg and a Chocolate Tart for sweet.
Simon & Jane are always helpful with tips on where to go and what to do.Breakfast again was another highlight which set us up for the rest of the day.
We have stayed in other B&B's in the Dales but without doubt Thorney Mire is Number One you will not be disappointed.
We would like to see an owl on our next stay please.

We have just returned from a stay at Thorney Mire Barn and cannot praise it enough. The welcome, the rooms, the situation and the food are perfection personified. The bed was by far the most comfortable we have ever slept in. Every little thing has been thought of and Simon and Jane are wonderful hosts. The fresh milk and juice in the fridge and the chocolates were much appreciated. The red squirrels and pheasants which frequent the garden are an added attraction! All in all, a most rewarding break and definitely the best b & b we have ever visited.

We had had a traumatic week leading up to our stay at Thorney Mire Barn - and at one point it seemed we wouldn't get to go at all. I'm so happy we did. Everything from the welcome, the food, the rooms and the location is perfect. Such thoughtful touches like fresh milk in the fridge, chocolates, magnifying mirror in the bathroom (a must for glasses wearers!) to binoculars to take on walks. The Barn is stunning and so comfortable and being able to go for magnificent walks from the front door is a major plus point. We had the ground floor room with our own little private patio from which to watch the red squirrels. 2 nights at Thorney Mire and I feel like a new woman! Thank you Simon and Jane - you have a little peace of heaven in Yorkshire.

My wife and I recently (20th & 21st April) enjoyed a stay at Thorney Mire Barn which far exceeded our expectations. Situated in the heart of the beautiful Wensleydale countryside it is ideally located for touring the dales.

Accommodation consists of three high quality bedrooms with ensuite facilities and everything you could want to make your stay extremely comfortable. Guest accommodation is separate from the owners so you have complete privacy.

Thorney Barn is owned and operated by Simon and Jane who are exceptional hosts. A hearty breakfast is provided with local produce prepared and cooked by Jane. If you want, she will also cook you a three course supper which is served in your room. This is a real treat, not to be missed, after a long day out when you just want to relax. The standard of cooking is excellent.
If you want a relaxing break in countryside surrounded by sheep, pheasants and red squirrels with good company this is the place to go. It’s a real gem of a find, no wonder there are so many repeat bookings. Book a stay you, won’t be disappointed – it’s well worth five stars.

Room Tip: Don't miss supper!

Had another brilliant stay at Thorney Mire Barn with wonderful hosts Jane and Simon. Three nights of super suppers and three fantastic breakfasts. The reviews are all spot on – what more could anyone ask. Nothing is too much trouble. Spotlessly clean. Added attractions this year – red squirrels, pheasant, gorgeous pigs and ‘Fruits of the Garden’ jam – delicious. Already thinking about next year’s visit. Thank you Jane and Simon.

Stayed here with my partner for the first time. Located in a stunning area that is away from any noise, but within walking distance to the local village. Both Simon and Jane made us feel incredibly welcome and ensured all are needs were tended to. The breakfast was marvellous as was the room. Could not find a fault if we tried!

Room Tip: The room located downstairs not only has a huge bathroom but has its own private garden! Luxurious
