“Poor Service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

We never got to see the falls due to the incompetence of the staff.

the green Dragon pub is really nice both inside & outside very oldy worldly.

I queued at the bar to pay an entrance fee to walk to the falls - there is a sign board that directs you to pay at the bar for the waterfall. There was only one man serving 2 bars and taking orders for food. I was the 3rd in line and after 15 mins - yes 15 mins- the queue was out to the front door. The barman then shouted - that if anyone wanted the falls to go up to the visitor center.

When we arrived at the visitor center the girl didn't have any change, so said that we couldn't go to the falls so I suggested that we go and she gives us change when we returned. She refused and said she could not leave the desk in case anyone else arrived. Then she said she would have to lock up and go and get some change - BUT ALL THE TIME REFUSED ENTRY.

Therefore we just got sick of the messing about and went - and never saw the falls.

The staff do need some training in customer service.

“Waterfall walk through the back of a pub!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

Hardraw Force is Britains highest natural waterfall. It is a spectacular natural phenomenon and is found through the back of The Green Dragon Pub!
Hardraw is the next village along from Hawes and is well worth a visit. the Green Dragon serves lovely food and is an old fashioned, strange and perculiarly spooky pub. Through the back is a short walk to the lovely waterfall. It costs £2 for adults and £1 for children as the waterfall is maintained by the owner of the pub.
The walkways are muddy and uneven in places, so dont wear white trousers! and the waterfall itself is incredible, not only the view of it but the sheer sounds from the rushing of the water.

There are picnic tables dotted about and you could spend a pleasant hour or so here, taking in the views across Wensleydale

“Worth paying for”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2012

While researching what to do while staying in Hawes we found Hardraw Force, only 5minutes from the main town centre, you can park for free in the Green Dragon Pub and then pay the small £2 entry fee.
The weather was good, and although there is nothing else to do once you've seen the falls, they are impressive and gave us some great photos (It also looks like they are in the process of renovating the area at the moment).
The tallest falls in England = impressive!

“spout in wooded ravine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

We camped here, in the ravine that leads to the spout. The spout itself is quite a sight and worth the £2.00 entry fee. However being in a ravine makes the area quite gloomy, if the sun is in the wrong direction (photographers beware). It's only a short walk up a gritty path to see it, although you can climb up high to the top of it on a further steep path. We did this but did not find the view particularly worth the effort. The site is really in need of the refurbishment, which does seem to be ongoing. The whole trip is probably made more worthwhile by spending some time in the Green Dragon Inn (where you buy tickets for the waterfalls) which serves good beer and enjoyable, reasonably priced meals all day and late into the evening. The pub is pretty old and quite a bit Tolkeinesque - we kept expecting Bilbo Baggins to walk in.
The campsite does not have a lot of facilities, but that suits some people, and we enjoyed our stay as it was such a quirky place.

“Tallest falls in England - worth a look”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

They're the tallest falls (100 feet) in England and easily accessible so why wouldn't you look?! Bizarrely, access is through the Green Dragon pub in England for £2, then it's a 10 minute stroll to the falls. Time your visit when there's been plenty of rain and you won't be disappointed - the force of a large quantity of water falling that distance makes quite a noise.
