We have been to the Lighthouse many times and, as its name suggests, the interior of the café is themed around everything connected with lighthouses and lighthouse memorabilia. Initially it may sound a bit gimmicky, however it is all done in excellent taste and the décor creates a fantastic seaside ambience. There are photos, models and even gifts of lighthouse related items. The first few times that you go there you will find yourself continually looking around at all of the pictures and models and for me the novelty has never worn off.
In terms of food the standard is every bit as high. The Lighthouse is probably the most expensive of the Filey cafes, but you really do get what you pay for and they are a cut above the rest. Their Afternoon Tea is a great example with a three layer cake tray displaying a mix of sandwiches, a scone with jam and clotted cream and a slice of cake of your choice (per person) – plus a pot of tea. The presentation of everything is superb and there are lots of nice little touches and excellent service from the staff who are always formally dressed. The owners, Paul and Janet, have clearly set very high and distinctive standards for the Lighthouse and anyone who goes there will not be disappointed. A snack or lunch in the Lighthouse will definitely be one of the highlights of any visit to Filey.
