“Lovely hotel, lovely service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights ,food very very good, staff were professional but also friendly and knew what they needed to do without being intrusive. Rooms were a nice size and it was nice to have some lovely toiletries to use in the shower/ bath, also some very nice biscuits to have with a cup of tea, we even brought some to bring home with us at a very reasonable cost. All in all a lovely place to stay will certainly stay again.

We had dinner here to celebrate the 35th wedding anniversary of our friends - the service was exemplary and the food was outstanding (my husband had the 'taste of suckling pig' which he described as mouth-watering!). Definitely a great place to eat!

Ate during a busy Sunday lunch. Although disappointingly had run out of pork, the beef was cooked to perfection. Lots of good choice, and the staff were nothing but helpful. They also went out of their way to help a young couple with a child. Will definitely come again.

Just returned from a 3-night mini-break in North Yorkshire (near Harrogate) - and could not be happier with our stay at The General Tarleton. No 'chain' mentality here - just recently renovated stylish rooms (replenished daily with delicious 'Auntie Bertha's' home-made biscuits) & a wonderfully cosy 'family feel'. The highlight of the stay, however has to be the dining in the restaurant... gastro-pub with main meals to match the best of fine dining. Friendly staff, lots of home comforts (help yourself to fresh milk for your tea from the little fridge) and a very comfy bed to get some rest before your next day out in Yorkshire. We'll be back!

From the warm welcome to the cheery farewell, each and every member of staff we met were pleasant, helpful and efficient. I would have no hesitation in staying here again next time we are in the area. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms scrupulously clean, our dog was made welcome and there were many little touches which indicated the management care about the service they give.
The food was excellent and reasonably priced for the quality. There was a good choice on the menu but not enough to make one suspect it was pre-prepared then microwaved. I am convinced it was all freshly cooked.
The location is quiet but handy for Knaresborough and Harrogate.

Room Tip: We chose a ground floor room for the benefit of our dog but experienced no noise from rooms above or...

Had a glass of wine when passing one afternoon. £6.90 I could have bought a better bottle at the supermarket for less. Staff a bit aloof. No one I know locally goes there mainly for these reasons. Food is good but not as good as they think or charge.
