“Fantastic Wedding Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Would like to thank Darron very much for the way that the wedding of Nikki and Mark went this weekend. Father of the bride and I had a fantastic time, the service for the wedding party was excellent, and would recommend to anyone who is getting married. Food was excellent both at the wedding and also breakfast and dinner in the brassiere.

Best wishes and thank you Darron once again for making the wedding of Nikki and Mark a special day.

Good hotel with ajoining golf course. Breakfast is really good & freshly prepared, evening dinner takes too long & would not recommend it. Rooms overlooking the golf course are best but you might be woken early by the grasscutters starting up at 6:00am. staff are very friendly.
Overall a good hotel for the cost.

Dear guest
Good to note that overall you consider us to be a good hotel which offers value for money – which is a key part of our philosophy. I was sorry to read about the couple of niggles you encountered particularly regarding the length of time taken for dinner. We do pride ourselves on serving freshly cooked meals to order, which can sometimes take a slight delay at peak times. Such times can be advised at check-in to help diners plan their meals to avoid these. The golf course is a great asset to have on our door step, but in the recent spell of good weather they have prepared their greens slightly earlier than normal.
Hope to see you again.
Best wishes

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. My husband booked it for one night as we were attending a wedding nearby (although the Humber Royal caters for weddings too.)

We booked a standard room but it was very large and light, due to having floor to ceiling windows which actually opened. (I get so sick with hotels where you can't open the windows.)

There was a beautiful view over a large leafy tree with the gentle slopes of the golf course beyond, and a table with two chairs in front of the window. So few hotels I've been in tempt you to stay in your room rather than go out, but that's precisely what we did. Once we were dressed for the wedding, we sat at the table and had a drink together right there, looking out of the window, rather than going out. There was free wi-fi too which is a huge plus for me. I now refuse to stay in hotels that don't offer it.

The staff were brilliant, both the receptionist on duty on the lunchtime of the 24th August and the one on duty on the morning of the 25th had brilliant social skills and were genuinely friendly rather than that awful fake friendliness some people in the catering trade affect. The hotel has obviously got excellent staff recruitment skills, because the staff who served us breakfast on the morning of the 25th were all fantastic too.

The buffet breakfast was quite simply the best I've ever had in any hotel anywhere, and that includes swanky 5 star hotels in London. The sausages were good quality, the eggs were cooked to perfection, (no slime on top and the yolks cooked but not overcooked) and the delicious mushrooms were fried in butter. There was also bacon and hot tinned tomatoes on offer, as well as a continental buffet breakfast with fresh melon, strawberries, kiwi fruit, water melon and physalis, plus pain au chocolat and croissants, toast, cereals etc.

For non-caffeine imbibers like me, there was also a jug of iced water with fresh lemon slices in, a lovely touch.

All in all, faultless. If we're ever in Grimsby again, that's where we're staying.

Dear guest
Wow what a fabulous review – it sounds like you were able to take full advantage of your room and the view on offer. I can’t say I blame you, chilling out with your partner, drink in hand – what else could you wish for. I always say that when you look out through our bedroom windows you could be anywhere in the world!
Many thanks for your compliments about our 'fab' team at the hotel, they really do enjoy working for Icon hotels and comments such as yours are a great boost for them and help demonstrate how we are measuring up against our customer service targets.
Head chef and his team seem to have also hit the mark with breakfast, ensuring your visit from start to finish was a success. Let’s hope you do return in the future when I am confident your faultless visit will be repeated.
Many thanks for taking the time to post your review; your comments really make all our efforts worthwhile.
Kind regards

the hotel of an excellant room with nice veiws.
the thing that lets it down is the price they charge for drinks and meals.
my husband refused to buy a glass of wine as they were trying to charge £20 for a measure the size of a small normal glass.

Room Tip: we had a room overlooking the golf course and it was lovely

Dear guest
I was very surprised to read your comments regarding the price of wine here at the hotel as our wines vary from £4.00 (175ml) to £6.10 (250ml); even our House Champagne is only £12.50 per glass. Our house wine is a mere £14.95 for a bottle, with a further 9 wines available under £20.00 for a bottle.
As per Licensing requirements these prices are displayed in all of our bars and are printed on all wine lists which are on show for our guest’s convenience and assistance. I would be happy to discuss this further with you if you wish; my contact number is 01472 240024.
Hopefully you’ll visit again and check this out for yourselves.
Best wishes

Don't let the look of the outside put you off, it is a relay great hotel, well presented communal areas, nice Restaurant, great friendly bar. The bedrooms are very clean and well finished, good WiFi in rooms is always welcome, I would not hesitate in staying here again or recommending the hotel to anyone. We used it as base whilst visiting family, other family members stayed in nearby hotels and each had horror stories to tell! The only criticism I would have is no air conditioning in the rooms, in the heat of this summer it would have been nice.

Did a read up for hotels in this area and this came up as one of the best. Booked on booking.com and paid 85. The hotel looks like some pre war building on the outside but once inside its lovely. We had a basic twin room but this was great for the price. When we booked the room we asked for a travel cot which when we got there they had not sorted but within 15 mins we had travel cot (needed a clean though, good job my daughter not picky!).
Bad points:
the room was very hot as it is in the sun all day and there was just no air so couldn't sleep as it was so warm.
all rooms over look the golf course and they do mow the greens very early so if you have your windows open because you are hot then you get nice early alarm clock!
our room was over restaurant/bar so could be noisy if people are outside eating breakfast at 6.30 or drinking late! (make sure you ask when booking)
the beds are firm but that is down to choice.

good points
the front staff are fab give them 5* - very helpful, friendly and welcoming
the breakfast is 5*
the rooms are lovely
hotel is good base for travelling the area

over all great hotel and would stay again

Room Tip: higher rooms are quieter and make sure they not over the bar/restaurant.

Dear guest
Many thanks for the comprehensive review you posted onto TripAdvisor. Your comments are very fair, pointing out our strengths and suggesting areas where we can do better. In particular, I was sorry and surprised to note your comment concerning the cleanliness of the travel cot provided, as cleanliness is my Head Housekeepers passion. Be assured this oversight has already been addressed.
It’s good to know that you consider us a ‘great hotel’ and I’m really pleased that you would stay again when you next visit the area. I hope to see you then.

Kind regards
