“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

Lovely hotel. We stayed in the Colonel Pitt room (Rm 5) for 2 nights and it was fabulous. Very clean, lovely view over garden, big, flat screen TV in room. Only complaint was the pillows were too hard...
Lovely garden
Breakfast ok.
Very friendly staff
Wish we could have stayed longer.

My wife and I had a wonderful one night stay at this lovely charming hotel. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel very welcome. The staff are delightful and nothing is too much trouble. We never had dinner at the hotel but the food looked great. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and delicious. The gardens were beautiful and you would never think it could be so rural from the view at the front. A real treasure of a find. Do not bother looking for any thing else in Melton Mowbray. Just book it !

I was expecting this hotel to be in a more rural location, but it was situated on main road. However once off this road you were met with peace and quiet. Secluded parking and beautiful views. We were met by Holly, who was a treasure. She took us personally to our room, booked newspapers for us the next day, served us at the bar, and took orders for our meal in the restaurant. She was extremely polite and friendly. Food was excellent, steak cooked to our liking, and portions plentiful, so no room for a dessert. Our room did not have a view of the garden, but did view the courtyard. Slightly disappointed with the bathroom, as this was on the small size. However it was immaculately clean, with white fluffy towels and a very comfortable bed and nicely decorated room. Thouroughly enjoyed our one night stay at Melton Mowbray. Staff could not do enough for you, and made you extremely welcome, even the domestics. I was slightly alarmed as some guests had dogs, and we are a pet free family, but they kept them in another part of the lounge.

Room Tip: If you want the rooms with a view, you can ask, but will probably have to pay extra.

This a lovely hotel. Friendly helpful staff, good food and great service. The view from the room I stayed in overlooks a beautiful well kept garden with a comfortable seating area. I stay in the area for business and have experienced many of the others at a similar room rate and Sysonby Knoll is by far the best.

We stayed at this hotel as part of the'Taste of Leicestershire' experience (which can be recommended), with a group of friends. We really enjoyed our two nights DBB at Sysonby Knoll. We found the staff to be very friendly, and the food, especially dinner, was excellent.
The gardens are beautiful and well kept, with plenty of seating available.
Our room was clean and very comfortable, although we needed to open all three windows to get any air into the room. During the night, this meant that we could clearly hear the traffic speeding by, even though it is meant to be 40mph outside the hotel. Maybe a fan in each room could be of benefit?
A twenty minute walk brings you into Melton Mowbray itself, along the busy main road, but it's easier than trying to park a car...
All in all, we really enjoyed our visit, and look forward to returning again.

The hotel looked good so we booked a couple of nights in a superior room. Stale smelling towels and a huge amount of sticky stuff on the bed head where my hair stuck to the headboard ruined what could have been a nice stay. Breakfast average. Was not worth the room rate! Receptionist informed of the problems but just received a "sorry".

What a wonderful find. Chose this hotel from a leaflet we had seen and we liked the four posters! On arrival we were shown to our room which was refurbished last year...wonderful. The view from the room took in the gardens and beyond. A drink and reading a book in the garden for an hour or so was very relaxing. Having already had a large lunch elsewhere, we were happy to have the lasagne and ploughmans....good value although the restaurant felt lonely..... Breakfast was just enough and the honey (made on the premises) was first rate. The staff could not have been friendlier and neither of us wanted to leave to go into Leicester for a business meeting. We will definitely be coming back.
