“Lovely country setting, not bad for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2011

We agreed with the last reviewer that the person who showed us to our room was charming - very useful and recommended places to eat and visit nearby. We stayed in a good sized room with a lovely view over miles of countryside - much more peaceful than when we have stayed in Melton Mowbray itself. The room and bathroom aren't in the most perfect of decorative order, but at least everything was perfectly clean. They don't do cooked breakfasts in this B&B - they leave continental style food in the fridge in the room - cereals and croissants etc all fine.
We were able to get wifi - just ask the owners for the password.
Given that the rates are pretty low for the country setting, we would certainly consider staying again next time we're in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a countryside view

Booked via phone, very helpful. On arrival was shown to room, building is from the 1920s and is simply put a family house with rooms for rent. It was very clean and the lady who was running the house for the owners was lovely. However thats where all the good things stopped.

We were shown to the yellow room, and prior to arrival was told there was no 4 poster bed as advertised, that not being important we booked... The room is described as an en suite with corner bath and 'we serve you breakfast in the room' .
The room is a good size, with french doors that would open onto a small balcony with a beautiful view, thats if they werent so rotten and jammed solid.
The 4 poster had been replaced with a 1970s pink head/base unit which was torn. Mattress was good but pillows were flat as a pancake.
TV was exactly the same size as a laptop and basic channels were included.. TINY chest of drawers in wardrobe with 3 drawers looked like a bedside unit, consequently we didn't bother to unpack.

Now this is where they used a play on words...we serve you breakfast in your room...actually means we have a small table, 2 chairs, a fridge with some milk and bread in it and you make your own breakfast in the mini kitchen in the room...

The small bathroom which was a similar size to a wardrobe had a TINY corner bath, sitting in the bath I needed to have my knees fully bent to wash my feet...obviously made for one of Snow White's helpers..

Any steam from bath, shower, cooking or even human breath caused condensation to run off the windows and walls, so it was no surprise to see the paper peeling at all the joints...

We made the most of it as everything else locally was booked, otherwise we would have checked out..

It was such a shame as the house has so much potential...it just feels like your granny has fallen on hard times so to earn a bit of money she now lets people in, however no improvements have been made since she was a girl, as an example the fire extinguishers were almost 20 years out of date.... PS get some Wifi !!!! I know it wasnt around in the 1920s but it is rather useful for business people and frankly nowdays a basic need for people.
