Now don't get me wrong, no-one visiting should expect alton towers for the price. especially if you book online where the real savings are, we booked before we left that morning and it still gave us discounted rates which i thought was good and when we arrived there was no extra charge for the car park which again compared to some of it's competitors was a pleasant surprise.
Inside the park was clean and i didn't feel like i needed a tetanus shot by looking at the adventure playgrounds which are vast, plentiful and let's face it most exciting activity for any 3 year old boy.
the rides and catering facilities were all working and open as i would expect for a bank holiday and it felt like there has been a lot of thought been put into the layout, but there are no sign posts inside so one of the complimentary maps is a must. there is also plenty of seating and a large picnic area for those who didn't purchase food in the park which made us feel like we wern't obliged to buy from the catering facilities if we didn't want to.
woefully understaffed on all areas of the park, the buffalo ride only had one attendant to manage the queues, operate the machinery and ensure everyone exited and was buckled in which slowed things down to what felt like a frustrating stop and a free for all trying to get on it as there was no queueing route.
the takeaway bbq place in the america section where we chose to eat at 1pm had a 15min queue to order, then another 10 min queue to collect the food which after collecting was cold. the attendant was pleasant enough and said she would fix it straight away! watching her put my 2 burger and fries i'd just paid £11 for being placed in the microwave for 2 mins left a bitter taste in my mouth though and when i asked for sauce i was told i would have to queue again in the first queue as there was a charge and it needed to go through the till.
I only found 1 baby change facility and guess what? there was a queue 20mins to enter a room that smelt too badly and nappy bin had overflowed.
queued to get a slush puppie, the machine had broke. queued to get an ice cream they had ran out. queued to get a drink and they had ran out of ALL non carbonated beverages.
Great site, poorly staffed and badly stocked left a feeling frustration on exit
