I booked in at the Queens head hotel for a 2 night stay for the local(ish) download festival. On the queens head site it advertises parking in a nearby pay and display car park, bed and BREAKFAST at £26.50 a night, with shared showers. I arrived at the queens head for check in time (which was supposed to be from 12:00pm,and i arrived at about 12:15),to be told check in wasnt available (bit of a pain as the festival ground opened at 1,and i was wanting to get there A.S.A.P,as id traveled from Lincolnshire to get there). I eventually got booked in,and was given a little card with 2 lots of code lock numbers on...one for the landing, and one for the room. i got to the room i was in (11 for note),and entered the lock code, and couldnt access the room...so i went back downstairs to mention this at reception,to be totally ignored.(i did manage to get in the room eventually). The room itself for £33 per night (£66 in total),was ok,but more like the size of a prison cell than a bedroom, there was just enough room for the single bed and a sink, with not much more room to move around in.The windows in the room didnt open (which after spending nearly 1 hour trying to find a car park, and struggling approx. 1/2 mile with my weekend gear, would have been helpful to let some air in).I made my way back downstairs,to try and find out where the car park for the hotel was,as like i say id struggled 1/2 mile with my bags, and had had to leave my car in a pay and display..to get told our car park is behind, yes very nice and helpful,as id been driving round the back of the place and still not found it. I was helped by a chap, who walked round with me to show me. well,i got to the car park, and it was only big enough for maybe 6 cars...and wasnt secure as advertised,as it only had a 1ft high fence surrounding it (which again was a shame as going to a festival i had hoped i could drive between festival and hotel, but no luck as i didnt dare lose my parking space,so ended up paying £60 out in taxis, who also aren't very helpful)The shared showers in the hotel, were 3 in a block (between 7 rooms)and were like what youd get (or at least what i imagin youd get)in a prison, all in a line with a 'see through when wet kind' of shower curtain, and both showers and toilets were dirty(i mean i wish id have stayed in the festival camping ground,at least there you expect toilets and showers to be dirty). So first day over..i thought ok,its only for the 2 nights. On the site it advertises it does have a night club below, what it fails to mention is the 2nd night club on the same floor as the bedrooms!wonderful! as this is open till about 3am,and you have to balance on a stair top trying to punch a door pass code in,in the dark (yes thats right in the dark due to the night club!),very dangerous!!! I woke up Saturday morning,to have been told breakfast started at 8:30am,8:50 and breakfast still wasnt open.when it did start i was told i hadnt booked breakfast,so therefore wouldnt be served (?!? i mean really?how hard was it to throw an extra egg on the fryer...plus i hadnt been told i had to book breakfast separate on check-in,and unfortunately am not a mind reader so didnt no this had to be done before hand..and to my armament it wasnt just me having a blonde day, most of the people staying there didnt know it had to be booked in advance),so ended up in a local cafe (thankfully i think,as looking at what was being served,i wouldnt have given it to my dogs). I got home Saturday night (approx.11pm after id seen most of the days bands),to be challenged for I.D by a bouncer,i then had to spend forever explaining that my I.D was in my room as i was staying there (i was on an adults bracelet for the festival,so didnt feel the need to risk losing I.D and bank cards at the festival).I got to the doorway of the hotel,to have some rude staff member almost fall over to race to the door and tell me to take my shoes off (ok i accept id been to a festival, and with typical British weather was covered head to toe in mud,but at the end of the day i was going to take them off as i wouldn't walk through my own house muddy!! so wouldnt have minded if id been politely asked..as opposed to almost having a door slammed on me on trying to sit on a step to take my shoes off). The clientel staying in the hotel, and visiting the night club (other than 2 groups id got talking to about the festival itself) were also rude. Ok i admit Iron Maiden arent everyone's cup of tea...but i dont expect to get harassed by,well what looked like 'little girls' (and by that i mean probably under age drinkers and barely dressed types),that obviously thought something was funny and clever about coming up and lecturing me on how (in their opinion) i was nothing but a drunk trouble causer, and so on,just because i enjoyed my rock music,(i mean i was sat minding my own bussiness and these people started on me?!? so how come i was a trouble causer?!?,and i did notice There were more police BTW outside the night club than by any of the bars in the festival arena..hmmm makes me wonder..o and that's just a cautious, please be careful in the town center).I checked out at approx. 9:00am (bearing in mind according to the rooms reference check out was 8:00am,but before 9,there was no staff about?!?).So all in all,id have probably been better off camping!,and wouldn't stay there again...total waste of money...camping in 10ft of mud all the way next time!!!
Dont choose the queens head hotel!find somewhere else!
