“What a great find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

For this, our first visit to Stirk House, we booked a Sunday night special direct with them which comprised dinner, bed and breakfast for two, for only £101!! We wondered just how good the experience could be for such a low price, but we need not have worried. From the lady at Reception when we checked-in, to the chap in the leisure Centre, to the ladies in the restaurant, to the ladies cleaning the rooms, to the lady at check-out, everyone we met was friendly, helpful and professional. Two members of staff said to us "I really like working here" which was great. Our large upgraded 'Manor' room was comfortable with a lovely modern bathroom, large fluffy white towels, his and hers televisions, a king sized bed, tea and coffee, free wi-fi and so on. Although we were on a 'deal' our choices for the 3 course dinner were from the normal a la carte menu and the food was really excellent. The leisure centre was well equipped and the pool was well maintained, clean and warm. There was an extensive menu for breakfast and my 'full house' meal was very well cooked (fresh from the kitchen) and very well presented, as was my wife's haddock and poached eggs. Part way through breakfast one of the serving ladies went from table to table offering additional bacon, sausage, mushrooms etc! It's not easy finding negative points to offer some balance to all of the positive ones; but being really picky, it would have been more comfortable if we could have accessed the Leisure Centre from inside the hotel rather than having to walk 25 yards outside, and the mattress on the bed was a little too soft, but that's about it. We certainly plan to return to Stirk House for another relaxing Sunday night away. One final plus point; all of the staff accents we heard seemed to be local.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Manor room.

This is a truly lovely place to stay,an historic house with acres of grounds in a lovely part of the country. It is an easy place to relax in,with staff who show a genuine interest in your wellbeing. There is a pleasant lounge to relax in,with service from the bar.Afternoon tea/cream tea is available. The breakfast/dining room has character and tables are extremely well presented. The food is absolutely fabulous, beautifully prepared and presented. The Breakfast Menu choice is excellent and includes many homemade products, continental or cooked breakfast will not disappoint.....you can have both if you like. Evening meal has a wide choice a la carte menu and a daily 'market menu'.All of the food staff are efficient, pleasant, helpful and keen to impress, which they do.Our bedroom,in the main building was well furnished, had a very comfortable bed and ample storeage space. However the en-suite was somewhat tired and perhaps a little TLC would help. The shower cubicle was way too small, the shower itself was very outdated, but worked ok..Shelving in the en-suite was non existent, so toiletries etc.were stored on the floor !!! It is so peaceful that you are quaranteed a good night sleep. Overall our stay was high on the satisfaction scale and a further visit is already beckoning. As an indicator of the desire to ensure that your meal is as you require, the chef sent a message from the kitchen to ask if our steaks had been prepared as we requested....nice touch.

Positive - beautiful surroundings, attractive interiors and excellent breakfast, helpful staff, good gym. Negatives - bed was far too soft, although pool was very clean the sides of the pool (where you walk/sit etc.) weren't with lots of dead flies and didn't look as though it had been cleaned for some time.

For the price we paid (a secret deal so 1/2 price) it was excellent value and we'd definitely go again and recommend this hotel, but had I paid full price for a better room (over £150 a night) I would have been a little disappointed with condition of the leisure facilities.

This was our 2 nd stay at Stirk House, we simply love this hotel. On this occasion we took our dogs with us, which to be able to do this is great. Everything about this hotel.....the fab service, the amazing food, beautiful house and grounds is what makes us return. From the minute you arrive all your stresses disappear. I'm sure we will be returning as soon as we can.

Room Tip: The rooms in the annexe building some people do not like, having stayed in the main house and the an...

Have stayed here 3 times now. Luckily we don't live too far away so use this hotel as a bolthole. We opted for a Manor House Room again. Though not as good views as some of the rooms it was an excellent standard. Massive bed and a super modern bathroom. The major plus with this hotel is its food quality and its service. Our Evening 3 course meal was one of the best and has an amazing menu. I hope when I return, the white chocolate panna cotta remains on the menu. The breakfast menu is a 5 star standard and also 5 star quality. The little touches to the service makes Stirk House special and excellent value.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for Manor House Rooms. Top Notch

Lovely drive up to this hotel, staff very friendly and helpful. We stayed in Lindun suite . Very spacious suite lovely double room with ensuite, lounge and full dining area desk and twin room all with their own tvs and wi-fi. Very clean and well furnished bed very comfortable and lovely linen.
The wildlife trail is a must to all guests .Fabulous evening meal very well priced and the breakfast was one of the best we have had in long time. Very extensive menu .
The bar area and patio outside was very nice.
Swimming pool was nice but need some tlc and maybe a hot tub.
Only complaint is need full length mirror in each room ( they have mirrors inside cupboard)
Overall a beautiful hotel in lovely grounds and so friendly. Will be back regularly

Excellent, stayed 28/29 July 13. Stayed in Lyndon suite all I can say is fantastic. Food out of this world and brilliant choice. Staff made you feel as though you were the only guests there. Going to book again for December. Cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: The suites are fantastic and well worth the extra money for a luxurious treat.
