Popped by the Freemasons yesterday for a quick lunch, we hadn’t been for a while as tried several of the other fine eateries in the area, but we seem to have a soft spot for the little gastro pub, its decor, roaring fires and welcome. It certainly deserves all the awards and accolades it has garnered since opening a few years ago.
After a quick glass of fizz we both opted for a lunch time set menu, great value at £23.00. Funky interesting soups served in fine porcelain, pork, lamb and lightly curried cod dish, light delicate yet flavoursome followed by a banana tart and a zingy lemon cheese cake. My companion commented on portion size, however once the old taste buds were ultimately satisfied she agreed that they are the perfect size for a lunch and we left more than content. I was tempted to try the award winning beers, alas my license was at the forefront of that thought so declined, will have to return with a designated driver!
We headed back into the hill feeling slightly plumper but certainly not stuffed – a very comfortable feeling.
