Perfect place, great location rooms decent size and very comfy bed. Really friendly helpful staff, nice bar and sun terrace overlooking the green fields and river. Very good price and the breakfast was top notch. Highly recommended

My family stayed for 2 nights for a friends wedding. Although the wedding was lovely, the hotel experience was extremely disappointing, I'm sad to say. For the price of the rooms we expected a little more. The whole hotel needs a lot of maintenance. Windows were missing hinges, carpet grips not fixed down properly, blinds in the bathroom had to be rolled up manually, doors could do with a lick of paint and the windows need a good clean, which shows especially on a bright sunny day. We stayed in the Princess Suite which is located over the kitchen area. Unfortunately I don't think the extractor has been cleaned and the corridor and room smells of old cooking oil which turned my stomach. Also, as it's an old building there are lots of odd steps every where which made it difficult for some of the older guests. The food from the bar was very nice and we had a mixture of nibbles in the evening. The service from most of the staff was warm and friendly. Unfortunately the waitress at breakfast really needs to get her act together, regarding welcoming people into the dining area and manners. I would have made a complaint if it hadn't been my best friends wedding. There are plenty of seating areas outside but the grounds are not suitable for anyone who struggles walking as they are very steep. All in all, we would never stay here again which is a shame as there are some beautiful parts of the hotel.

Room Tip: Don't pay for an expensive suite and they're not worth the money. Just a basic room would do...

Mitton Hall's bar menu was suggested to us as the perfect option for a laid-back meal on a Sunday evening. At first I was slightly concerned it might be a very posh, very intimidating sort of place but once inside the gorgeous grounds give way to a comfortable, luxurious interior.

The huge fireplace in the main entrance hall fitted will with the "Scottish castle" feel of the décor and the bar, which is off to the left, was fitted out with all sorts of interesting furniture. Our table in the bay window was a huge goatskin drum!

The food was delicious and really very moderately priced. We were told about any changes to our order (the chef "was not happy" with the Thai crabcakes and so we were asked to choose something else) in good time and this added to my experience of exceptional, friendly service from everybody we met.

The bar was well-stocked (however as rum fans we felt there could have been more of a selection!) and again, moderately priced. It was a thoroughly enjoyable place to sit, eat and chat without feeling overly pressed to be on "best behaviour". Next time I'm sitting by the fire with a brandy and not moving!

Surprise getaway, just what we needed. Lovely hotel from the outside with huge sweeping driveway and it gets better on the inside too. Perfect mixture of the old and the new, without clashing. Lots of history for those who like character. Staff extremely welcoming, nothing too much trouble. Food was fantastic and the service second to none. Lovely views and perfectly placed for those who want a break from busy lives. Will definitely be going back.

Nice location in a river valley, impressive driveway and easy parking for unloading. Helpful staff took my suitcase to the room, quick checkin no problem, Charming main galleried lounge and bar area with welcoming huge wood fire places. Lunch of Lancashire cheese on toast was perfect. Wifi in bar area working fine.
This place appears to be more of a bistro with rooms and therefore the f&B side of the business is busy. The decor is sort of gastro pub meets northern shabby chic. The bar area is painted black with chandlers and a strange carved wooden asian things behind the bar. The furniture looks like its been hit a metal chain to give it character but it was very comfortable.
The bedroom was good, small, clean and trying to be trendy with wallpaper behind the bed. Bathroom was modern with a few knobs missing but all worked well
Evening G&T in the bar was disturbed by young child but moved down by the window for a bit of piece and quiet, shame because it was nice sitting in front of the fire.
Its seems to attract families with young kids. The kids seem to be allowed in the bar area i guess because they serve food.
The candles come out at night to give atmosphere although its all a bit "Liberace".
A good evening meal, robust rather than fine cooking. Good choice of wines.
Excellent nights sleep, no noise and a breakfast of manx kippers a little disappointing maybe they should be grilled rather than poached.
This place is summed up by "Tempura Black Pudding" that was served for dinner. Manchester in the country. Excellent value for money, i have paid a lot more for less and well run.
Only one complaint i could get the wifi to work in the bedroom!

Room Tip: Maybe overlooking the charming gardens and river at the back

Stayed here for a friends weeding. Our room was fabulous and very clean. Highly recommend the Bacon butties and chips supplied as the night buffet and the breakfast was good too. Did hear dogs barking but didn't disturb our sleep; our room was to the front. Husband could not get BBC 1 on the TV to watch golf and be warned the bar is very expensive! Overall a good stay.

Fantastic setting and lovely friendly hotel with attentive service by pleasant staff. Olde worlde charm with cosy lounge and open fires. Good meals at dinner and breakfast. Good bar and wine selection too. Priced reasonably for a four star standard property which this certainly is. Rooms comfortable - seemingly range in size, style etc . Can range in value as well - we got a good value deal at just under £100. Presumably gets busy at weekends with weddings etc. Looks like a great venue for a special event / wedding etc. One of the Ribble valleys lovely properties.
Compares to the superb Inn at Whitewell.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A four star country house hotel providing luxury accommodation at the heart of the fabulous Ribble Valley. Our big idea for bringing this magnificent 15th Century manor house back to life was to take it back to its roots and make it feel like a home again. Somewhere that looks and feels like it belongs to somebody. Stunning interior design and decoration perfectly complement the ancient architectural features to create a contemporary country house hotel. Both effortlessly beautiful and unashamedly romantic. The ambience is quite unique. It is certainly luxurious and feels exclusive but the luxury and exclusivity are open to all. From a relaxing morning coffee or afternoon tea, to lunch or dinner and for everything in between. ... more   less
