“BIG Dissappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

We booked two rooms at the hotel for the weekend of the 24th of November. One of the rooms was a decent size, but had only a very small window, above eye level, and two completely blacked out velux windows, this made it very dark indeed; the main room light and fan did not work, the bathroom sink taps were loose, the bathroom floor had cracked and lifted tiles and moved as you walked over them, and the bathroom also had lights out. There was a constant hum of machinery throughout the day and night.
The second room, has a larger window, but no curtains at all, again the main room light did not work, it was extremely hot, the bathroom had a problem with backing up drains and smelt very badly of sewage, the sink was leaking.

We asked at least three times for the lights to be sorted out as we were getting ready to go to a wedding and some light was needed, they fixed the bathroom lights, but not the main lights.

A set of curtains did appear eventually after spending one night without them, but when the room was left the key card would no longer work, and getting back at 1am, had to go back to reception to get it re-validated.

This hotel is four star in all the public areas, but definately not in the bedrooms that we had allocated - a real let down.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 97 and 98

Me and my partner have stayed her once before but this stay was by far the best. The staff were lovely and could not do enough to help you. For example a tiny criticism was our desert took 40 minutes to arrive, once the waiter realised he was extremely apologetic and offered us something on the house. The food and room was out of this world with nothing to complain about. We also enjoyed time in the spa which was lovely and clean. The buffet style breakfast was a lovely touch and how the food was set out was ideal. Apart from waiting 40 minutes for our desert everything was perfect. Will definitely be coming back in the new year.

Room Tip: For an extra £20 it is well worth an upgrade

The main part of the original hotel is stunning. Additional rooms are in a more modern building at the rear. The approach is nice and has easy access from the motorway. However, we found you could hear some motorway noise from our bedroom.
The bedroom itself was spacious and well furnished. The bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was a decent size too.
The restuarant was fully booked on the evening we arrived, but we enjoyed eating in the bar, where we could still choose from the comprehensive menu. The food and service were excellent.
Breakfast the following morning was again excellent, with good choices including lots of fresh fruit and well cooked typical English breakfast.

Room Tip: Rooms not backing onto the motorway would be quieter.

Excellent value for money. Very attentive bar staff. The bar menu was very good value for money. Check-in was fast and efficient. Buffet breakfast was excellent. The hot, full English, was brought out quickly and well cooked. we only stayed one night, therefore didn't have time to use the spa facilities but they looked lovely. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

I picked this hotel as a Red Letter spa break with my Husband. I was a little worried after reading some reviews on here but I shouldn't have been, we were given an executive suite which was in a lovely quiet area of the hotel, the room was spotless & the bed very comfortable. We ate in the resturant for our evening meal, it was nice but nothing to rave over, however the breakfast was fabulous. We didn't use the spa as i had a terrible cold so can't comment on that. The staff were attentive, warm & very friendly from the front desk to the random faces met around the complex. All in all a great choice which i will be repeating.

Secret Hotels through Lastminute.com can be very hit and miss but great when you get it right.

This hotel has been slated in the reviews so of course I was sceptical making the presumption I would be allocated the worse room in the hotel as purchased at a discount. I phoned ahead and asked if I could have a quiet room as the night before I was up with my 5 month old son.

My room 713 was in the executive wing and positioned at the back of the hotel looking onto green fields.

I must confess I didn't venture out of my room and had an amazing nights sleep feeling refreshed for a busy day ahead with work.

I will be using this hotel again for sure when away on business.
