Owner description: One of Lancashire's most historic halls set in the beautiful park of the same name. The history of the Hall itself is full of intrigue, with stories of plotting and religious turmoil. It dates back to Elizabethan times with changes and additions over the centuries, all helping make a visit to the Hall a fascinating and enjoyable experience. This grade 1 listed building is the jewel in Chorley's crown, with stunning plaster work and architectural features. As the town's museum and art gallery it is also home to items of local historical interest. William Shakespeare and Oliver Cromwell are some of the famous guests to stay at the hall.

Free parking, free entry and lots to see and do - children love pets corner! Wonderful historic hall with interesting exhibitions. Parkland and gardens are beautiful and the new fountain looks great.

“Beautiful and interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

We discovered Astley Hall quite by chance last year despite having lived just 20 miles away for ever! Since our first visit we've been back three times because the hall itself is so very interesting and the grounds are beautiful and it's all free! Entering into the house is like stepping back in time and there is also a cultural centre full of history and additional exhibitions and things to do - crafts for children during the school holidays etc. Everything - from the house to the gardens and park and small animal 'zoo' - is beautifully maintained and the staff are most welcoming and friendly and informative. In addition to the house and the play areas for children, there is a lovely wooded walk and a little land train which will take you to through the grounds to Chorley town centre if you want to go further afield. In the grounds, close to the house and free car park, there is a lovely cafe which serves simple fayre and where you can sit outside if you wish. When we visited at Christmas time the house was beautifully decorated and there was also a temporary ice rink in the grounds. You can easily spend a whole day here and I would highly recommend that you do! We plan to go again, often.

“Super park to spend an hour or two”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2014

Astley Park always rewards a visit for a walk around the grounds. Great mix of open land, sports fields, kids playgrounds, and a beautiful wooded glen.

The historic hall is well worth a look around with a number of intriguing nooks and crannies to be discovered.

Head from the hall towards the "town" end of the park and there is a little "petting zoo" which keeps smaller children entertained for 20 minutes or so.
