Owner description: One of Lancashire's most historic halls set in the beautiful park of the same name. The history of the Hall itself is full of intrigue, with stories of plotting and religious turmoil. It dates back to Elizabethan times with changes and additions over the centuries, all helping make a visit to the Hall a fascinating and enjoyable experience. This grade 1 listed building is the jewel in Chorley's crown, with stunning plaster work and architectural features. As the town's museum and art gallery it is also home to items of local historical interest. William Shakespeare and Oliver Cromwell are some of the famous guests to stay at the hall.

“Good for an afternoon when your bored”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

Lovely to look round a piece of history, especially in my own town. But a lot of the rooms are locked. I asked why and no one could give me a real answer. They said they won't be anything in them, even so I would like a look.

Worth a visit, wish they did tours to tell you about people who used to live there.

“A historic gem in the centre of Chorley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

If you like old houses steeped in history and set in lovely surroundings then visit Astley Hall, it's not a full days worth, maybe a stroll around the house then the small grounds maybe an hour or two but it's worth it.

It's free entry but donations are gratefully received.

“Excellent afternoon out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Recently visited Astley Hall with my baby daughter and mother in law, surroundings are beautiful and well maintained and the coffee shop on site does excellent coffee cakes and lunch options.

If you have an afternoon spare I would highly recommend.

“An educational experience in a lovely parkland setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

The only fault about the hall is that it is not open all year round. You would have to log on to its website for opening times. That being said a lot of it is pretty much as it would have been when it was built so with little imagination it is easy to see how the gentry would have lived around the time of the civil war. There are a considerable number of exhibits in the kitchen, the long gallery and the bedrooms to show how the owners and their servants would have spent their time. A visit would be an invaluable experience to any student of that period.
Leaving that aside there is an excellent cafe and many acres of woodland and parkland in which to walk.
